I think there is value in giving players a resource they build up across lives. It's comforting to know that you're building towards some kind of contribution, even if you're not racking up kills every life.

That metagame is what makes mobas compelling.

The ults are way too impactful though. And they warp the games balance . Junkrat and pharah ult wreck lobbies at beginner level but are functionally useless at higher ranks. How is blizz supposed to balance the characters then?

That's my issue with them, especially on some game modes like if you're the defender, you could have the most solid defense but two heroes on the other side can just press Q and break the defense and move the cart up and give themselves more time, again.

Basically role of defender if you're good at it is to basically make the game as long as possible instead of winning.

Same issue with Elden ring. They made the weapon arts like 90% of the fricking game lol
