I was just wondering why NO ONE has done a game like this despite that feature in sonic being iconic and loved. Somehow immediately 5m later I see this in my X feed. He's really trying to make it as expansive as possible.

yea im not sure i'll play it, im sure there's other equally good pet sims without having to rip off SA2, but im glad someone's trying it because i really like the chao garden system i just wish it was expanded and attached to a better game. i like sonic just fine, but SA2's not my favorite. i actually am starting to like quite a few of its levels now im trying to get all the emblems in it and i think it's a clever gameplay loop but i'd have gotten into the chao garden way sooner if it was attached to a different game altogether. like i think if Spider-Man or a Saints Row game had a virtual pet sim like the chao garden i'd be all over that, or even just Generations
i think tho that a standalone game runs the risk of not being all that fun once you take it out of its context of being a mini game. There's a ton of depth to the chao garden but i dont think you can spend three hours just watching those things grow, I think how the game handles it with you drop in on them between A rank attempts and then go back to the main gameplay once theyre starting to bore you is a good idea. they also have a ton of activities which would be forcing you to be idle if there wasnt another gameplay style to go after but the delayed gratification is important. SA2 can be a bit frustrating to get used to and the Chao garden can be a bit boring to wait around for stuff to happen but those put together makes it a fun experience because youre sort of working towards a goal in this standard action game
