I played during WotLK and Cata (private) when those were relatively new but gave classic (also private) a try like 2 years ago and honestly it was just as fun.
My problem is I lose interest around hitting max level because at that point it just becomes grinding instances which can only be done when enough people are online to form a group. Leveling up with randoms you find in the world is by far the most fun part to me

The wildest thing I had experienced was me having to pledge allegiance to Serbia during a guild raid. This was after the NATO bombings and the independence of Kosovo. Zoomer me had no idea what the frick any of this meant at the time, but I did it anyways because I shared a time zone with these people and just couldn't raid otherwise.

God I miss old school WoW. It was so much frickin fun and hilarious shit like this happened all the time.
Probably my biggest dramatic event was when this girl named gummybear was flirting with someone during a raid. Her husband just came home from the military. She used to flirt with all the dudes and was pretty hot too. She did nothing but play WoW all day, but this day her husband was home. He heard her flirting and came in, started having a meltdown screaming at her, and threw her monitor across the room. All of is were in vent at the time and didn't know if we should call the cops or what. lol
eta: oooh and don't forget the people having meltdowns on PVP servers when someone interrupted their game funeral for something. They would get so mad when you raided it. God I miss WoW!

Modern day video games are better than MMOs and that's why they managed to out compete them. Better product replaces worse product and its only nostalgia making people miss world of warcraft so much.

I think it's actually because the mmo market's also being soaked up by pseudo-mmo type games like genshin impact, which 'allow' playing with other people but are essentially just singleplayer games with pay2win mechanics, which kind of describes a bunch of mmos too.
