For some big studios and publishers, having that ugly weird mix of characters is less optional and more mandated by internal policy, which in turn is driven by certain large investors who demand not just corporate DEI, but the pozzing of whole products (be they TV shows, ads on tv, or video games).

Absolutely. And thats why theres no end in sight. Shitty sales as a result of these decisions are ignored and blamed on anything else. DEI shit isnt included to get sales (thats just a fig leave to make the DEI slop palatable to the public) so declining sales dont detract from DEI inclusion.
