Though with ASL, deaf people have more of a claim to having a culture because they do have their own language, and therefore specific method of communicating. But that's another topic.
The thing is just tied to the narcissism of being special and the chance to try and force everyone around you to treat you a certain way. Just another man or woman isn't enough, and certainly doesn't rank on the oppressive stack. Zippertits is just a sign of appealing to fujoshi-types.
