I think he hit on two or three really really good ideas and marketed the shit out of them, plus he drives people harder than a pack mule. But people selectively forget about the whole bunch of stinkers he shits out on the regular (the Hyperloop/boring company/cybertruck/naming his children r2d2/buying X or using X at all).

theory: AAA studios have been going all in on the DEI crap and are starting to realize none of their employees left can actually make a fun game. So instead of taking the publicity hit of firing them, downsizing worthless departments, or hiring white people who can make games, they just let them make whatever dumb game they come up with while tightening the deadline to an impossible crunch, and use it as an excuse to do what they wanted to.
