HOI3 literally had automatic battleplans you fricking r-slur both games reward micro and are only fully experienced in MP. HOI4 is in many ways especially post-NSB shrimply streamlined hoi3 (welcome change) with certain macro stuff added to make up for it, like custom composition brigades for your divisions compared to hoi3s static brigades and tank/ship designer.
I like hoi3, but if you don't think hoi4 is good too you are just r-slurred or a contrarian, no serious hoi3 player didn't make the switch.
I'm saying that to your other interests, hoi4 isn't about painting maps, you literally get weaker if you do it, unlike say victoria 2 or EU4. HOI4 is above all a WW2 war game, and it's best played as such with two teams of axis vs allies. That's how paradox QA plays themselves.
I'm calling you a map painter larper who can't handle your games having actual gameplay. Which is what redditors are, r-slurred RPers
Have you ever actually played HOI4? It's literally an RTS through and through, build orders and macro galore. EU is a map painter, hoi4 is a competitive RTS. The nonsense you're saying is essentially
"StarCraft is a map painter cuz you have to take your opponents base"
It's nonsense, and it's very obvious you've never played actual hoi4. Single player hoi4, is not hoi4. It's singleplayer larpistan. Victoria is a good game, but it can be reduced the same way in singleplayer by simply annexing so much land that infamy doesn't hurt you, but that's not Victoria, is it? To claim victoria is remotely better than HOI4 is ridiculous, there's a reason HOI has always been the flagship of Paradox, it simply has gameplay, which is designed around playing in an actually historical Axis vs Allies settin. It's an RTS. The EU series is always the first in line because it doesn't have gameplay, it's a game where there is only one goal, and that is to conquer, and every mechanic within centers around letting you annex easier. Not so in hoi4.

It's literally a game about painting maps, why would you be surprised people like to paint maps on it?
Like a surf player being surprised people actually play CS

It's a map painter like the rest of them, HoI more so than any other PDX title because there's nothing else to do than paint the map
Vicky has a (basic) economy simulator to fiddle with (2, not 3, 3 is a clicker game) and CK is half an RPG and half strategy game
I don't really like EU though so I won't comment
