That's what I find most frustrating about the invasion. All these sanctimonious shitheads going on about how unjust and cruel the war is when they're the ones that enabled it. They fostered the dependency on Russian oil that gave Putin the leverage he needed and now they're crying foul because he isn't playing nice. Motherlover, he already took part of Ukraine in 2014, you had nearly a decade of prior warning about Russia and you still did nothing to wean yourselves off of their oil. Heck, they mocked the guy who warned them over the sheer fricking pettiness of "orange man bad."
Supposedly there's no price too great to pay in the sanctions meant to stop Russia, but none of them could be bothered to consider the consequences of their dependency in the decades prior. Putin knows the leverage he has and he is going to squeeze that oil feed to a trickle in the winter to make Europeans cave.
