At 21 you can have no college degree, no skills, a ton of debt, and live in a very expensive area, and still be able to move out of your parents house (with roommates) on a retail slave wage.
How a person has not bettered themselves at all by 30 is beyond me. 9 years is plenty of time to move into management without even trying. And that would be if you passed on the million or so other options to move into another field.

"G*mer culture" is an expensive infinitely-regenerating mousetrap designed to keep poorcels poor. Conservatively, the hardcore g*mer guys I know are spending ~$650/mo on g*mer stuff between the subscription services, the microtransactions, the new games, the streamer subs and donations, the merch, etc. And on top of that, you don't get to really be "in the culture" til you have a gaming PC, which will run you at least $700-800 upfront.
The ones I'm friends with only have their own place because they live together and each work 30hr weeks at $15/hr. They're basically in a position where 1/3 of their income goes to rent, 1/3 goes to g*mer stuff, and then the final third is booze/weed money unless the car breaks down. They also b-word about income inequality all the time as if quitting booze, weed, and gaming for 6 months wouldn't net them $7k.

They're doing some niche streaming service's customer support; frankly, it's a bullshit job, but it keeps my unambitious loser friends alive and fed, so thank god it's there. These guys are never gonna "get a real job," they're too fricked up from a lifetime of being raised by the Internet. These guys aren't doing clubbing, they're doing Groomercord drinking nights with their online buddies - and it's not fun club drinking, it's sad "technically not alone" binge drinking. I sat in on one of these that my buddies "hosted" recently and I swear it was like a dive bar for foids and a group therapy session had a kid. The jokes are all PC and buttoned down (can't offend the group train), the guy who lives with his parents blacks out within the first hour, and once enough people get drunk they start bitching about either far-leftoid politics or their personal traumas. This continues til everyone is too drunk to competently play games, then they disperse wordlessly til the next week.
Tbh if that was my main social outlet I'd probably be dropping $300/mo on booze too.

States vary wildly but for a given underwriter, it has a lot to do with their experience with that car and who you are.
Teenage boy with an Impreza WRX? Insurance is expensive because they know you're going to wrap it around a tree.
25 year old girl in a CR-V? That shit will never go above 50 and damages will be minimal when she bumps into another girl in a Rav4 at the Starbucks parking lot.
Technology helps, too. We replaced a 2010 Mercury Milan with a 2022 Ford Bronco. Even though the Bronco is worth 20x as much and weighs more, the insurance is cheaper because it has emergency braking and pedestrian detection while the Milan just had BLIS and a reverse camera.

Might go up, might go down -- Pontiacs are driven by a lot of teenagers which makes it higher-risk, but Corollas are a lot more common and more likely to be repaired rather than salvaged.

Oh I would never purchase a GM. My family has had nothing but problems with them. Heck, my brand new 22 Silverado work truck had to go back in at 500 miles for a new transfer case gasket.
The Corolla is fine if you're a non-enthusiast. I'm used to bigger, fancier cars so it felt too cramped and barebones to me. It was a lower trim, too. Camry will definitely be safer and more comfortable. Either way, you'll get the modern assists like pedestrian detection as standard with a Toyota
The higher trim levels have better instrument clusters, but this thing felt like a Tamagotchi to me, even worse than that base Dodge Caravan I rented. I was thrown off by how you still had to hold the key in the Start position the entire time it's cranking. The last car I've had that didn't let you quickly flip the key to Start and it auto-cranks was a 1996 Dodge Ram.
Like come on, it still has the little plastic peg sticking out for switching between odometer and trip.
