I moved out when I was 17 and it took me a long time to realize how a-typical that was. But it was so normal to me to have a job and be self-supporting.

No wonder I hate reddit.

I'm a NEET high school drop out and I moved out at age 26. It's pretty easy, I just pay the rent for my social housing flat with my NEETbux.

I mean... After 25 everybody should still have a roommate. You just call it your spouse.

So I really fricked up in my 20s- dropped out twice, failed my state exam once, finally made it, then dropped out of my postgrad and went straight to the psychiatric hospital, followed by years of unemployment and a bit of alcoholism.

I STILL moved out before I hit 30. Redditors have no excuse.

I live in a pretty expensive area and literally 0 of my friends live with their parents. Are redditors really this far left of the bellcurve?

I cannot comprehend the flyovercels in that thread posting their rents and talking about how they are paying +$3000 to live in an apartment in some dump like Tennessee or Ohio. You can easily find way cheaper nice apartments of the same size in world class cities with better jobs, living standards, education and better everything else than where these redditors live except meth purity and mobility scooter availability. How bad do you have to be at apartment hunting to frick up that hard?

21, ok, 25ish if you’re in NY/LA/SF etc., but otherwise, literally how? One could work part-time at like a buck above minimum wage and save up enough for a hefty down payment on a house in the TWELVE YEARS between becoming an adult and turning 30! And even that should be harder than getting enough together to rent a room or get a place with a friend (that, of course, would require having friends, so that’s out for many redditors)

No point saying it again because there's some people out there who do not want to hear it and can't accept their own failures.

You get a job. You work hard at it and do well. You get a better job and do the same strategy. You continue learning new skills and pushing and improving yourself and then by the time you're in your thirties you should be earning loads and be moving into a bigger house.

It's hard to even relate to these people. Doing the above isn't hard and all the people IRL I know have also managed it. Redditors must be a subclass of loser who I don't interact with IRL so I find it impossible to understand exactly what they're doing wrong.

I don't even have a very good degree. What you do in your career is more important than what you do in uni.

Honestly carp the thread is not that bad, a lot of people in the post are rational and there aren't many soys - a couple of highlights:

living frugally. I couldn't afford consoles, I couldn't afford tv. even my cell was a used unit i got for cheap.

all I could afford was food, rent and basic utilities. But that leaves a lot of time for work. so I work. Its not fun.

Now I am better off, so I am enjoying myself with things I never had in my youth. so pardon this 40plus year old nearing 50 dude that still watches cartoons and plays videogames.

Dude, so many people on this thread are making the act of moving out of their parents to house before 30 as some Herculean effort, it's asinine. Step 1: Get a job; Step 2, not at Starbucks part time.
