33 years and 5 days ago, Soviet president Boris Yeltsin made an unscheduled “gotcha” trip to a random American grocery store in bumfrick Texas. The story of how communism died before it could kill another 60 million.

Bonus video from the same year at mighty Moscow grocery store for comparison:

Also in 1989:

Soviets trade 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer for some Pepsi.

>Yeltsin asked customers about what they were buying and how much it cost, later asking the store manager if one needed a special education to manage a store.

It's pretty easy to be laid back about who you let manage your store when you have the right to instantly fire them if they demonstrate incompetence, with no further implied consequence

in a lot of states they don’t even have to demonstrate incompetence. at-will employment means you can fire someone for literally anything besides illegal discriminatory reasons. you can fire someone because you think their car is ugly or their laugh is annoying

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. At-will employment does NOT mean that you can fire someone for any reason. You can only fire someone for a good reason, like if they're not doing their job well, or if they're breaking the law.

This is an idiotic comment and you should feel bad for even thinking it, let alone typing it out and posting it.

I’ll have to find it, but I remember there was a job advertisement a few years ago that got somewhat infamous on Reddit/Twitter for an art museum in Canada and they wanted the candidate to have a masters degree in art for a Secretary position that paid like $12 an hour lol.

Exactly, high qualifications for competence doesn't mean the work is valued, theyre separate axes, see garbagemen for the inverse

Its a reasonable question, why would he know the specifics of how the American job market works? It doesnt say anything about what the situation was in russia

By this point it was too late for the commies though, kruschev era was the last chance

If he was smart enough to surmise the necessary skills for that position, then his question boils down to "are you r-slurred?"

If not, he was r-slurred.
