In a speech in 2002, Crichton coined the term Gell-Mann amnesia effect, after physicist Murray Gell-Mann. He used this term to describe the phenomenon of experts believing news articles on topics outside of their fields of expertise, even after acknowledging that articles written in the same publication that are within the experts' fields of expertise are error-ridden and full of misunderstanding:[140]

Murray Gell-Mann wasn't a psychologist, he was a physicist, and quite an accomplished one at that. The phrase Gell-Man amnesia effect was coined by Michael Crichton (the guy who wrote Jurassic Park), who also wasn't a psychologist.

Don't know, dude. I'm too drunk. It's not a social science, he was doing a comical observation. A one that fits with a LIVING EXPERIENCE of anyone who has mastery of any subject and ever bothered to open a newspaper or read a website. If journos are too r-slurred to grasp things you know, why assume they grasp things you only know in passing?
