Pretty easy under. Island critters don't stand a chance against invasive species.

Based. By the way I was running the numbers and pretty sure even if 99.9% of species died on Earth due to humans we would still have thousands of species. Plus we are looking at it all wrong. It's not a species number issue, it's a biomass issue, and as long as biomass doesn't decline it doesn't matter if there are just 10,000 species left.

The whole point is that with far fewer species, the ecosystem is much less resilient too changes (such as climate change, but other changes as well).

The survivor species get tougher as the evolutionary pressures increase. It's a case of as long as things get harder survivors get stronger as long as things don't get hard too fast.

That's fundamentally not how evolution works.

With a greater diversity in species, it's more likely that more of them can adapt too changes. With fewer species, it's more likely that none of them can.

that's ignoring the amount of biomass again.

If 100 million of a species higher chance of at least 1 adapting, if only a 1,000 of 10 species way less likelihood of adaptation.

As long as the 100 million are not forced to be genetically perfectly same as in the case of green bananas or yellow bananas.

Wrong. Evolution is intelligent, not random as materialist scientist would have you believe.

Depends on how you look at it.

In the lens of human benifit, it is bad, because as the number of niches without humans as a factor decreases, what we are left with is species compatible with humans.

This means we are left with domesticated species and species specialized to be human pests.

Then we exterminate the human pests and we are only left with species that get along with us. I.e. a planet sized garden and we are the caretakers. Sounds based.

Not going to happen. There's always going to be some that slip by. C0ckroachs, rats, bed bugs, the uncountable agricultural pests, etc.

Even if we use genetic engineering or artificial life to attempt to exterminate our problems, life, uh, finds a way.

I think cockroaches beat zombie worms so I still say burn em all.

Rats can be easily domesticated. What we should have done is take domestic rates and breed them to only love humans, then breed them further cannibalize all street rats, then feed them some extra steroids.

If we could exterminate pests without somehow harming ourselves we would have done it already.

We almosts got rid of bed bugs with DDT, but then it turns out they became resistant to the poison while also poisoning ourselves.

Complete extermination just isn't going to happen, and without that, we are just giving opportunity for life to adapt.

This statement is so pants on head dumb. The only reason we haven't exterminated all pests is because they are pests, by definition they are almost impossible to get rid of. Whenever we are able to though we do actually kill as many as we can. See for example- those disease causing worms and stuff. Got rid of all of them and nobody complained.

We almosts got rid of bed bugs with DDT, but then it turns out they became resistant to the poison while also poisoning ourselves.

Ah you meant it in that way. Got it. In that case we just need to upgrade our extermination methods. Soon inshallah.

Complete extermination just isn't going to happen, and without that, we are just giving opportunity for life to adapt.

Wrong. By that logic zero animal species go extinct every year.

More comments

there are two species that aren't endangered so the entire species probably won't go extinct

Surely these two out of the thousands of extinct island critters will make it.

Unfortunately Hawaiians are completely unable to control their feral cat population because of the most vocal and insane cat lady bloc in the United States.
