The social media era is going to make leaded gasoline look like a joke. Stats show that kids are now dumber, gayer, and more suicidal than they were 20 years ago. And then r-slurs will have the temerity to blame this on muh climate anxiety and not the fact you hooked every developing child up to a machine that generates neurodivergent narcissism.

That and I dislike the idea that corporations manipulate people to try to claim every minute of time they have. Being bored is good for kids because it forces them to have new ideas and seek new things. Corporations would rather they stare at ads and give up data. Obviously social media has financial interest that conflicts with human wellbeing.

A very important point which is disregarded in favour of the fun pictures and bright lights. I have experience with this, was a hardcore loser Reddit doom scroller for a long time before I deleted that. Made a positive difference on my world view very quickly lol

Yeah I became a social media conscientious objector a few years ago, deleted everything except anonymous stuff and trimmed my feeds down a lot. It's worth it. I just don't want to give up laughing at internet drama.

My theory is that internet media is used very heavily for warfare purposes, such as information, psychological and economic ops. Laughing at internet drama hopefully skirts around all that heavy stuff by refusing to take anything seriously.

I actually agree. For example, China limits TikTok use to like 40 mins a day and it's all educational/patriotic content. Look at what they let our kids watch all day, absolute brain rot material. I think that internet-savvy countries are going to be using social media as a way to hinder economies and societies by spreading bullshit around. Shit like how Russia had people arguing extremes, often against each other even, just so that onlooking Americans would have a picture of extreme division.
It can be dangerous, like my father recently has been watching what he says is the "real news" that is basically shit Chinese algos feed him on TikTok. And this is a dude who is obsessively anti government spying on MAGA people willingly letting China track his whole phone.

Their solution for capitalism is basically hoping for a revolution at some point but in the meanwhile giving as much power to gov entities as possible.
