๐Ÿคฏ REAL ๐Ÿคฏ This place is a bad influence on zoomers

A lot of zoomers here aren't experienced enough to be this neck deep in irony posting.

Most r drama zoomers think everything us drama boomers say is totally serious.

This website is brain melting as many as 17 zoomers.

They come here to laugh at a few lolcows and end up trapped forever.

Ok here's my neurodivergent take that I noticed about zoomers. First we need to define what is a zoomer. The official definition of a zoomer is anyone born after the year 1996/1997. So the oldest zoomers alive right now are 25/26.

One similarly of all zoomers is that they were raised with the internet to a significant degree compared to previous generations. But, There's a noticable subdivision between older and younger zoomers. Typically older zoomers are more "normal" in a sense and aren't as crazy progressive/terminally online as compared to the younger ones. But what is the cause of this issue?

It's unclear if it was one major factor or the culmination of smaller effects. One possible theory I have is that older zoomers were more more likely exposed to the "free internet" (Think of internet forums pre 2010's ) and thus were raised with an unsterilized . But the younger zoomers were raised on the corpse of the old internet, a neutered version were everything they say is examined to an extreme degree for being "wrongthink" or "chuddy". I want to say this shift occured sometime around 2014/2015 when the internet became more "censored". Because of the environment they spend multiple hours on is heckin neutered they're more uptight about what people say online not realizing that people are actually joking. Thus, that is what shaped everyones current image of zoomers.

Anyway thats my thesis thanks for reading

WRONG

zoomers are born after 00

late 90s babies are ALL millenials no matter how much they want to be considered zoomers (idk why anyone would want that though ๐Ÿ™„)

2000 is just a very round number so it makes sense

This is a funny take because I'm used to hearing the opposite

I kinda agree on a lot of levels though, and I might even extend further a couple years. Generation where a single desktop PC was the main tech device in the household unless your parents worked in tech and cable TV was the main media propagator growing up, vs generation where smartphones and mass social media were omnipresent starting in childhood.

Really the problem is the prevailing generational model doesn't line up with tech evolution very well, and starting around the 80s that became a defining factor in generational differences.

Also daily reminder that the kids raised on ipads from birth are only 10 years old so it's gonna get a lot worse

I think it's also that people tend to mellow out as they get older. The younger zoomers are in the throes of puberty so they're acting like r-slurs, but they'll be ok in a few years.

Hopefully thats the case. People tend to ease up for the most part as they age. But for zoomers I do think it will be to a much lesser degree compared to previous generations. But well have to wait and see for that

It isn't about the internet, it's about social media and phones. Social media took the worst aspects of mass organised education (i.e. kids being influenced mostly by and spending most of their time with other kids their age) into the home, and phones made it inescapable.

That's it, that's the issue. It's a generation of kids being raised by kids around their own age, watching unregulated content made by and tailored for kids their own age, whether that be writing/art on tumblr, photos on insta, videos on tiktok, video game chitchat from other kids their age, school groomercords, you name it, there's an option.

They have no significant adult influence in their lives, they come home, barely talk to their parents and get on their phone/PC all evening.

It's a major problem.

Honestly, I saw the change start in like 2011-2012 on SomethingAwful when the definition of racism and anything chuddly was vastly expanded.

Like racism went from explicit statements to things like saying โ€œlol, chicken feet soup is WEIRDโ€ or โ€œlol look at this fat and crazy person in the hoodโ€ and then someone would post a Tim Wise video and talk about privilege.

I think the shift started around that time where you would see articles of that type, but I believe most people were fairly resilient to that change at first often disagreeing with it and it wasn't until later where those ideas cemented themselves in the mainstream. The early days of reddit (2012) I remember seeing people make fun of nonbinary people and such. But nowadays your comment would just get yalled and downdooted

I'm one of those older :marseyzoomer:s and that's what I think too. I wasn't even on any of those more out there forums, I was just on basic youtube and reddit in 2011-2015 and the culture was definitely way more offensive, back when stuff like tumblrinaction got really popular and the average person would laugh at some dude using xe pronouns. A lot of bad elements of modern day internet were starting to seep their way through, but it was easy to ignore until it was too late.

Its nice to hear another zoomer have the same thoughts. I was never able to explain the shift because most of my friends are normies.

One thing I dont like about modern internet culture is even with them platforms becoming more restrictive on edgy content, it's had a sideffect creative content. Like "vomit cake" by idubbbz, flithyfrank, and maxmoefoe. Whatever you think of the video, there's no way anything lile that would be created today which sucks butt.

Its was very strange to see those elements come alive. I remember being shocked back in college when I saw one of my professors put their pronouns in their email. I always thought that was just a weird online thing. But now it's pretty commonplace to see it

I have is that older zoomers were more more likely exposed to the "free internet" (Think of internet forums pre 2010's ) and thus were raised with an unsterilized .

I'm one of those "older zoomers" and I started out by visiting small forums for videogames&hobbies. People on those sites were a 1000 times nicer than anything on the internet nowadays. The worst you would read is someone telling you to "read the fricking manual". I had thousands of posts in those forums but had never been called an r-slur before joining reddit.

Most websites were not at all like early 4chan/reddit. They are the one who caused the "sterilization" of everything with their cancerous users.

Typically older zoomers are more "normal" in a sense and aren't as crazy progressive/terminally online

Everyone is terminally online, we just consume different content. Only my grandparents are not, and they spend all day watching television which rehashes the crap that's trending on social medias. You can't escape it

Because of the environment they spend multiple hours on is heckin neutered they're more uptight about what people say online not realizing that people are actually joking

Here's another theory: everything you post online will stay there forever, it will eventually resurface with your IRL name attached and it will be dissected. How do you not become paranoid about literally everything that gets posted online?
