A few of keystone lessons would be:

1. Be honest with yourself. Lying to yourself distorts your perception of reality and makes it difficult to act in a righteous manner.

2. It's fundamentally important to the spirit of an individual that they believe they are a good and righteous person, and to not demonize or villainize themselves. Not to mean that we don't struggle with sin, we do, and it's important to understand when we're grappling with darkness, but that we believe we have an innate capacity to overcome and progress. This can be framed simply in the mind with the mantra "I am a good person" when we lose focus and supplemented with an additional mantra "I'm having a hard time" when we struggle or fail to meet our expectations.

3. Take your body and the material world seriously. There's significance to the the health of our bodies and how that health impacts our perception of the world. There's a measurable physiological component to our experience tied into our nervous systems and our ability to nurture them. Stand and sit up straight, drink water, eat nutritious food, exercise, sleep when your body tells you to. On a personal note, I grew up in a soda household. My family bought soda by the case at the market and I associated thirst in general with the need for a Dr. Pepper. I would drink at least 6 a day. You may be the kind of person who thinks your life is miserable because of some indescribable miasma hanging over you, but it could also just be that you're sugar sick 80% of the time.

4. To lead a serious life requires dedication, focus, and a commitment to challenging old, comfortable habits. This is where the discomfort comes in. You're gonna be tearing down a lot of mental systems that serve to assuage the ego at the expense of divining what is real. The pain can be intense, exhausting, and all-consuming.
