In Kentucky? Itโs Appalachia.
Michigan has lots of flat farmland interrupted by okay hills and valleys caused by glacial drift. The further north the better, but as soon as you drive east to the OH/PA border you see a real hill and realize you donโt know what a hill is.
Michigan is cool though in that it has an amazing west coast with waves and dunes and great beaches but because the water isnโt salty people donโt give it a second thought.
But itโs still the Midwest.
M22 going up the coast of Lake Michigan is one of the better driving roads in the country and reminds me a lot of Highway 1 in Northern California, just on a much smaller scale.

Thatโs my dad.
I took him out to Monterey for the pebble beach concours for a week, then spent the following three weeks renting and borrowing classic Porsches to drive all of the cool roads in northern and Southern California.
We did sleep in the same bed though, but we always do because I like to stay at strange hotels that arenโt always set up for non-European family dynamics and he enjoys the weird adventures I would take him on. Whenever Iโd buy a new (used) car on the west coast or southwest Iโd have him fly out with me for the adventure.
We were supposed to do that trip the fall before Covid happened but his cancer came out of remission and Covid happened so we werenโt able to do it until late-2021 and he was so fog brained from cancer drugs that he seemed like he had dementia and doesnโt remember any of the trip.
Iโm glad we were able to do it though, because heโs much worse off now leaks everywhere and itโs basically a long drawn out waiting period for him to stop suffering and die.

I just avoid saying words that I know people are going to say wrong. When I moved to Chicago I had two separate women I dated, both native to Chicago, claim I had a โmidwestern accentโ when I was born and raised only two and a half hours from them.
