Dr Oaken, Subject Matter Expert, Catholic doctrine and theology
I want to address a section of one of the quoted bits of speech, which speech was deployed in support of hatred of transgender people - hatred which includes me, as a transgender woman.
β¦ natural law isn't merely a theological concept, it's a scientific principle that has been the backbone of scientific thought for a thousand years.
Properly, Natural Law β the ontology and precept, the axiom of Natural Law β was the backbone of scientific thought for a thousand years, because scientific thought in Europe for a thousand years was subject to being bent to the justification of Catholic theology.
Natural Law, in the realm of the study of medicine and biology, has not been axiomatic β has not been the backbone β of scientific thought for some decades, now.
Natural Law was removed from the philosophy of science because in science, one does not presuppose a conclusion and then select facts, and a narrative of the facts, to meet that conclusion.
Natural Law is a prescriptive formulation - it says βAdam and Eve, not Adam and Steveβ; it says that there are no third genders, that there are no healthy families with two mothers, no healthy families with two fathers. Natural Law denies evolution; Natural Law denies the existence of viruses, of bacteria, of yeast, of DNA and RNA and all things invisible to the eye, it denies the existence of Homo neanderthalensis, of dinosaurs, of all things not imagined in the philosophy of certain Christian sects. It denies that women have the right to proper healthcare and control over their reproduction health. It denies that there are transgender people.
Natural Law was not, and never has been, a scientific principle. It was a principle forced upon science.
Because Natural Law β and the power that making science subject to it gave to the Catholic Church β because these are no longer part of science, it is important to remember that fact and to make it clear when theocrats grasp once again for the control it gave them over science, over biology disciplines, over medicine β it is important to remember that they no longer have that privilege, and cannot be allowed to reclaim it.
Because it is clear that they desire that power in order to commit hateful acts, to deny others our liberties and rights and freedoms and communities.
OP: I'm drunk, wtf are you babbling about?
I just want to ask for some clarification as I'm finding your wording a little bit hard to understand. Mostly because at this point I'm a little bit drunk.
Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me using that quote and saying it's transphobic?
