East Asian style shopping districts also look ugly though, all that bright neon everywhere :marseyblind: plus they're pretty cramped too.

Only beautiful retail shopping district is inside a mall  And maybe some small farmer's market type of deals. But you can't have a million different shops selling the same shit without garish advertisement everywhere.

I think :marseygigathonk: the pic in that post looks unappealing probably because it has too much bright :marseysun: red neon but I like the ones that look like this.

Either way, being clean :marseycarpjannie2: and not in a state :marseycoonass: of decay :marsey682: makes everything look better.

There's no visible feces or sewage on the ground either. Japan might have an edge here

When I was in tirumala (that temple city) there was one single shopping centre, where there are at least 20 shops selling the same things. I never understand how they make money, you see a shop at the entrance selling statues and 20 shops more while traversing inside selling the exact same shit. I guess since the footfall is huge someone will buy something randomly by chance

Pretty much. I was at Haridwar recently and they built up the riverside beautifully for the Kumbh there, a maybe 50 m wide walkway. Near our hotel it was worth just sitting there. But get closer to the main ghats and its filled with random shops selling everything from those 20 rupee chinki toys to candy floss. I didn't see a single person buy anything from them(main traffic entered the ghat at a later point). :marseyshrug: And they never can be content just selling. No they have to come harass you to buy. :marseyraging: I've taken to just saying I'm a garib student when traveling solo otherwise naarthies don't leave you alone.

My TOP secret trick that works everytime is I just scream at them like a lunatic usually they back off immediately (make sure ur not comprehensible or they might engage)

This practice of harassing you to sell shit is taken up a notch in gasmir. You can't even enjoy a relaxing boat ride in Srinagar without vendors harassing you every minute with their own boats asking you to buy some lame souvenir

You should wear a tiranga cap or something :marseytroublemaker: I think that's supposed to work like crosses with vamps on kashmiri k2as.

They get a lot of visitors

I was there a couple of months ago and chatted up some shopkeepers. They tell me that they mostly make their margins through the sheer volume of people that visit.

When people see a crowded shop and see another shop selling the same shit next door, they just go in there. This is how you get 20 shops selling the same things.

I hate street shopping, foids in my family love that shit and drag all their moids and kids.

Give me a clean mall where I can be in and out with my shopping and wait at a bar or something while the rest of the group spends 2 hours not buying anything.

They'll take a 500 rupees ride to save 200 rupees on 5000 rupees of purchase JUST :ragestrangle: :marseytrad: I especially hate the places where you can barely stand outside cause there's people constantly passing.

The Pakistan picture isn't even that bad. I'm impressed that they were able to find a place in South Asia that isn't a slum.
