EFFORTPOST [Effortpost] That time the Catholic church caused immense seething by beatifying Francoist victims of war :marseycrusade:

Before we get into the juicy drama, we need to clarify a couple things, since I know the average dramatard is chronically ignorant of things that exist outside america :muttrun:. If you already know this stuff then you can skip it.

The Spanish Civil War

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16842180178892462.webp

During the late 1930s Spain was in the middle of a civil war, it had previously been a short lived unstable democratic republic, led by left-wing revolutionaries (Republicans :trumpjaktalking:), until pro-monarchy christo fascist movements (Nationalists :marseyauthright:) decided they wanted to retvrn to tradition so they staged a coup and war begun. I'm not going to go into the details of the war because they really don't matter. All you need to know is that Republicans were the reddit atheists :marseyneckbeard: and Nationalists were the marble statue twitter accounts. :marseyrightoidschizo:

Religious Persecution in Republican territory

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Terror_(Spain)

We have established that Republicans weren't keen on religion, since the catholics were on the side of the Nationalists, hence after the failed coup of 1936, which started the war, a wave of violence against catholicism began in the Republican controlled areas of the country, referred to as the Red Terror, with horrible attacks such as priests being crucified and castrated, nuns being skinned alive and their tits being chopped off, churches being burned to the ground, etc. :marseywholesome: I should clarify most of these people were not combatants and they were mainly killed for the crime of being catholic. Of course Republicans were the heckin Good Guys™ defending democracy from the Christo-Fascists so it was totally justified, no doubt.

Around fifty thousand people lost their lives to this wave of violence, up until 1939 when Francisco Voldemort won the war and stopped the heckin wholesome peer reviewed schezwuan sauce religious pogroms. :marseysoyseethe:

The Actual Drama

Note: For those of you who suffer from American. Beatification is the Church's way of officially declaring that someone went to heaven, xoxo. :marseyblowkiss:

Around 2013 the Catholic church, led by pope Francis :marseypope:, decided to beatify 522 victims of the Spanish Civil War, holding a ceremony in Spain to mourn the victims of the Red Terror, very nice and dandy. But Francis did a heckin wrong-think by recognizing the murders done by the Good Guys™ as unwholesome, which caused a bit of a fuzz, as we'll see.

Despite clarifying beforehand that the ceremony was to honour the victims and not a political one, and that they were in support of the Nationalists nor against the Republicans, this did not stop left wing groups from intensely seething because someone pointed out a bad thing the Republicans did, instead of blaming everything on Francoism (as is tradition in Spain).

From Spanish Wikipedia.

The movement "Procés Constituent a Catalunya" issued a statement opposing the event and considering it an injustice to the republican victims who defended democratic freedoms. :soycry:

We had to behead those nuns and put their heads on sticks at the entrance of their church to uphold democracy, chud, you wouldn't understand.

The Christian association Església Plural warned that the beatifications could become an act of fascist exaltation and Spanish nationalism, and warned that extreme right-wing groups, such as the Asociación Cruz de San Andrés and the Liga Tradicionalista, were calling for the participation of their sympathizers. :soyjaktantrum:

The worst part about us mass murdering priests and nuns is that it gives chuds a valid argument.

The Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) of Tarragona requested to the plenary session of the city council that the consistory not be involved in the act, because it considered that it went against the secular character of public institutions. It also asked to reconsider, for security reasons, the presence of American warships, that the archbishopric assume all the costs and that the Spanish royal family not be invited. He also warned that the act could "hurt the sensitivity of those people and relatives who suffered the consequences of the coup d'état and Franco's dictatorship and who still await recognition and restoration of the place where they suffered (Las Oblatas, the Antigua Audiencia, the mass graves of the cemetery...)." :soyjakcobson:

Trauma is when people mourn victims of war.

On October 10 there was a concentration of a hundred people of the Coordinadora para la Laicidad y la Dignidad, with 1700 signatures of support and the adhesion of 59 entities, according to the organizers. It ended with the reading of a manifesto that was hand-delivered to the Archbishop of Tarragona, Jaume Pujol, where they demanded the Church to recognize the dignity of all the victims, to say that the coup d'état of 1936 was illegal and to apologize for the proximity to the Franco regime. :soyjakferal:

All lives matter, chud.

A group of entities of the anti-capitalist, pro-independence, Marxist and libertarian left (the trade unions Co.Bas and CGT, the organizations Arran, SEPC, Endavant, CUP, Revolta Global and the Unified Socialist Network of Catalonia, and the local collectives Cau de Llunes, Brot Bord, Friends of Che and Ateneu Llibertari Alomà :soyjakfat:

Friends of Che lmao :marseyxd:. Watch out chud, the larper squads have arrived.

They called a demonstration in Tarragona with the slogan "Against fascism and the coup church" for October 12 at 6 pm, with a route from the "statue of the naked" in the Rambla Nova to the Plaza de Poniente. The collectives said that they are not against religious beliefs or the fact of beatification, but the "fascist connotations" of the acts and the choice of the same weekend of Columbus Day. The event brought together about 500 people. :soyjakyell:

500 p-p-people!? Shiver me timbers! :marseypearlclutch:

In the end the Church gave a half-assed apology and told people to forgive and forget, and the commies still seethed with rage, positive outcome for dramacoin. :chudcheers:
