the mostly male characters became more vulnerable, empathetic and comfortable being themselves with other men.

is it just me or is everyone mixing up empathy and sympathy nowadays

vulnerable

That’s an undesirable trait for anyone, not just men, but women as well. I don’t understand why anyone would like to be “vulnerable” and feel like that’s a good thing.

Words mean whatever I personally want them to mean, sweaty. And you WILL use it how I want :marseynails:

I wonder if the actual meaning is to push the idea that if you understand someone then you must agree with them aka acknowledging their lived experience tier stuff. To discourage 'I understand you but you're wrong' by just using the same definition for empathy and sympathy

It's honestly a toss-up because, while these people are incredibly r-slurred and may not understand nuance, they would do ANYTHING to absolve themselves from responsibility and self-reflection

Empathy is to put yourself into other people’s shoes, is a very useful and respectful trait.

Having “sympathy” is just to feel sorry.

Redditors mistake empathy with being overly emotional and melodramatic. They don’t understand one can empathize with people without breaking down into tears. They also don’t understand that one can cry a river without feeling any empathy at all, that’s a very common tactic employed by narcissists and other manipulative persons.
