Why the frick is the United States Congress the most uneventful national legislature in the world? Even the bongs have more fun in the Commons. :marseysadcat:

Not always.

"According to historian Joanne B. Freeman, there were about 70 incidents of violence between members of Congress between 1830 and 1860, mostly related to disputes about slavery.[14] The most famous such incident of the era occurred on May 22, 1856. Abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner had delivered a forceful anti-slavery speech called "Crime against Kansas" two days before, during which he insulted pro-slavery Senator Andrew Butler. Sumner was sitting at his desk when he was approached by pro-slavery Congressman Preston Brooks, a cousin of Butler. Brooks shouted at Sumner, and hit him over the head with a cane at least a dozen times, leaving him bloody and severely injured. Pro-slavery Congressman Laurence M. Keitt stood by with a pistol and his cane, to prevent other senators from coming to Sumner's assistance. It took Sumner three years to recover from his injuries, and he suffered from pain and trauma for the rest of his life. Brooks and Keitt resigned, and were both re-elected. Sumner received great sympathy and support in the northern states, and Brooks was acclaimed in the southern states, and the incident contributed to regional polarization."

I was actually thinking about the caning incident when I wrote the comment. It doesn’t happen much anymore though and even then the quips and comments are tame.

Honestly I should run for Congress as the most milquetoast neocon/lib and then just spend 2 years viciously lighting people up and posting dramatic memes and hurtful personal insults about my political enemies (all elected officials)

You have to have someone to bounce it off though, otherwise it would be a quick 434-1 removal vote.

But if you do, it will probably be a glorious four hours.

I'd be sure to flipflop my hurtful comments so each party gets their turn and I always have 50% of the country supporting me

Maybe you should have one person that you just bully incessantly for no particular reason as well, likely one with a low profile so it won’t be as politically charged.

I'll obviously bully Ted because everyone fricking hates him already and he's a spineless cuck so he can't defend himself.

For the Ds, I'd have to deploy communist rhetoric against Dianne Fienstein and her big peepee yolo trader husband for oppressing the worker through insider trading, which is dangerously close to my actual thoughts on the matter and probably should be counterbalanced.

Are there any quiet centrist Midwestern democrats I could take uncalled-for shots at to keep an even keel?

Careful, he’s the Zodiac killer you know.

Midwesterners and the Plains Western states often have tamer Democrats. There’s a Democrat representative from Kansas who’s a Native American woman and is very popular there (she’s also a former mma fighter and comes from a military brat household) but she is a moderate and steers clear of progressive policies, basically the embodying the moderate liberal.

You could probably target some Texas and/or Southwestern Latinx for either party, especially those along the border, for being bigots for their conservative views (the only Democrat who did not succumb to the whip on the abortion issue was a Latinx Democrat from Texas).

Hey, it worked for Norm MacDonald (may he rest in peace).

that really has a lot of potential, but to the amount of peepee sucking required to get there is dire

Trump did however show me that being a major league shitposter is a dark horse method of getting elected

Some people are able to display their intelligence by going on at length on a subject and never actually saying anything. This ability is most common in trades such as politics, public relations, and law. You have impressed me by being able to best them all, while still coming off as an absolute idiot.

Prime Minister’s Questions is like a weekly hazing where everyone in parliament takes turns trying to out-banter the PM and the PM has to banter them back with facts and logic and cutting sarcasm.

Joe Biden wouldn’t last five minutes in PMQs.

It’s the best of political theatre.

How’s Boris fairing these days?

Good at the banter. Bit of a softy for a Conservative PM. Made quite a few policy blunders, but the political opposition is so weak he could face-frick the Queen during her Christmas speech and still win the next general election.
