The 3rd party apps that didn't throw a hissy fit and delete their API keys like Apollo still work because reddit just arbitrarily gave July 1st as the deadline without doing the needful to rate limit the API.

I thought they were charging for API calls not rate limiting them? I wouldn't expect charges against existing API keys to be particularly collectible, but if I had distributed an API key I owned to anyone else (let alone tens of thousands of people), you can be darn sure that key would have been revoked way before July first.
