It's both remarkable and sadly not that surprising anymore how often American conservative values and ideas seem to perfectly align with the Russians. I'm sure there's some cross similarity in right wing parties in other countries as well, though I must admit I'm not as well versed.

everyone thinks i am crazy but i don't think its an accident. russia has been manipulating american public opinion and american politics for nearly a decade using social media. i think the west is a lot more resistant to that sort of thing now but it has done considerable damage.

Time to stop comparing the Tories to Nazis... it's Putin now

Yes, they finally banned us.

While the Nazi comparisons are still uncanny in so many respects, the Tories' de facto ban on transition isn't far off Putin's actual one in the present day so I will, henceforth, be comparing the former to the dictator waging war on the edge of Europe.

Here's hoping this'll make the Tories feel a bit warier of using us as scapegoats & distractions while they continue to trash the UK, and give the other parties a bigger stick to beat them with.

Oh, I know, I wasn't implying that at all but I feel like, when I'm trying to get cis people to give a f**, my rhetoric has been having *less impact the more the Tories behave like Nazis because no matter how similar 1923 feels to 2023 their denial just seems to get stronger.

Sad day for Russia, with so many in power living in denial of the reality of the need for such healthcare, simply because it doesn't match their expectations for how reality is "supposed" to be.

Also, it's obvious to me that Putin has been working very hard to influence the US in exactly the same way.

To add some context, this puts into law a de facto situation that has existed for a long time now.

It should lead to no more than a continuation of the extermination of trans people in Russia that's been happening over the last few years, but now with more possibilities to substantiate refugee status and get the heck out of Moskva.

I feel so sad for transsexuals in Russia, now and for their future. This is what happens when Gender Dysphoria ceased to be a medical condition and became part of gender ideology, lumped in with gay rights.

Russia has never been a safe haven for most of the queer community. But still, I was surprised and saddened that it has come this far.

Russia is still considering transsexualism as a medical condition. They just consider it as a mental illness, group transsexuals with libertarians and treat both with therapy.

I think Will Powers is absolutely right about the key issue: trassexualism should be considered a medical condition, but an endocrinal condition, not a psychiatric one. And he's even giving a draft of the endocrinal profile of transsexual people (the Meyer-Powers syndrome), which means it could be diagnosed with a bloodwork and a genetic test.

I remember seeing Dr. Powers post on here a couple of times. It seems like he's always been on the side of transsexuals, not just in the sense of providing us with treatment, but seeking to truly understand transsexualism and how it works. People need to listen to him; he probably knows more than anyone else right now.

He is truly phenomenal. His research brings me a grain of hope for the future. His practice PFM is one of the only places I have ever felt comfortable being treated.

He'll definitely make a name for himself in terms of research into transsexualism, I'm sure. And I really hope he does, because he's the exact sort of person that we need.

Why not just kneejerk hate him like everyone else? Besides, if we can measure transsexualism, making up genders becomes way more difficult to defend!

i hate it even more because of the fact that the only existing russian "trans" community is made by tucute girls in tiktok with the bunch of pride flags on pfps who are "joking" about "cis are not people" and literally wishing death to everyone who disagree with them, so even a lot of lgb people are against us and support this law because of what image trans people have here. this mix of the insane trans trend and transphobic as frick society and goverment is so sick that i really can't.

I knew a Russian girl in her late 20s once. Not only did her mother wish for the Soviet Union to return, but being stealth at a house party, we somehow got to talking about LGBT stuff.

She got so heated up about transgender people. She told me, "Even drag queens are better than trans... at the end of the day, they at least know that they are men!!"

I was mortified, especially being at the passive end of the conversation. It definitely did not make me want out my history even more.

For a country where homosexuality could get jail time (I don't know if this is the case now), Putin has made his country worse, especially for people like us. I have always wanted to visit Russia, especially in Eastern Russia... but with a law like this, I wouldn't even dare now.

Omg. This is the worst law change we've seen.

It bans hrt and even annuls marriages where one person had their gender changed. So someone married for 30 years will all the sudden be un married because one person changed their gender at soms point.

God. This is so fricked up.
