$50/hour? Even at 10 deliveries an hour and ignoring the time they spend in the depot (and every other overhead that UPS has) then how does that maths add up? Are burgers paying $20 delivery on every purchase?

Shipping packages is pretty expensive in the States.

I order a poster and it costs $14 to ship to me in Michigan.

Meanwhile in Germany I can any package shipped in the EU for around 5 Euros.

Yeah, the sheer size of the country inflates the cost of logistics.

Europe and the US are almost geographically equivalent in size.

You'd think given that the USA is a "single country" they'd have less of an issue.

EU is also about 3.75 times denser in persons/sq km than the US.

Which is why we have DHL lockers everywhere (Germany) so I can easily pick up my package instead of it getting stolen (USA) cause some r-slur Amazon/USPS/UPS delivery guy left it on my front porch for everyone to see.

DHL is utter dog shit, come on

I never had a package stolen in the US even leaving them outside for a week while on vacation, because I didn't live in a culturally enriched area. Package theft is a very limited problem

Have to disagree with you there sweaty. Personal anecdotes don't constitute facts.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-postal-service-cracking-down-mail-theft-crimes-against-carriers-2023-05-12

The U.S. Postal Service said on Friday it is taking steps to crack down on rising mail theft, robberies of carriers, change-of-address fraud and counterfeit postage.

Do you r-slurs actually not get shit delivered to your door? Like you have to go to a cuck locker to pick it up?

If you're shipping with USPS you are also paying the same no matter where you live. If you are a ruraloid you probably pay below what it costs to get the package to you, subsidized by the urbanoids.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

What? Maybe if I'm paying for a flat rate package (which is r-slurred).

Otherwise with USPS you pay by zones or rather by how many zones you cross.

Why do Burgers comment on things they know nothing about?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

>with USPS you pay by zones or rather by how many zones you cross.

Yeah but zones are based entirely on distance. Take two municipalities in Iowa: De Moines (the capital) and Havelock (population 130, about 150 miles from de Moines).

If you are equidistant from the two places, the shipping is the same. It could be even cheaper to send it to the rural town than Des Moines.

But with only 130 people, it's almost impossible to move mail and packages profitably into small, rural towns like that. A truck has to be loaded from a major city (probably Des Moines) and sent out on the 6 hour round trip with likely very little on it and very little to return.

Idk the exact cost of operating a truck for 6 hours and 300 miles but you'd need a lot more $14 packages to make it profitable than the town of Havelock can generate.

The USPS does this because they're a public service and everyone needs mail and packages.

UPS and FedEx charge extra for remote deliveries (https://www.ups.com/assets/resources/media/en_CA/UPS_2022_Preview_Add_Value_Charge.pdf) while the USPS doesn't because the former are profit-driven businesses and the latter is a public service.

Even at 10 deliveries an hour

Obviously rural areas are different but here in a city they're delivering packages way way faster than that.

By chance I came across the Amazon delivery tracker where they show you the position of the driver on the last mile near your house and how many deliveries are left before yours.

The guy did 16 deliveries in 5 minutes, so I imagine USPS can achieve similar rates.

from Britain the US is the most expensive place to send to or order from in the entire world. Small packages can cost like Β£60 to send it would cost Β£8 to send anywhere in europe

Australia, Japan, China are all vastly cheaper and much further away/more complicated routes to get to.

Burgers don't usually have this option since part time is totally different than full time employment.

I can choose to work 30% less and keep all my benefits (vacation time would then be 30% less since it's based on days worked).

Working three days a week and still making six figures is in my personal opinion way better than five days a week with just larger six figures.

But I'm rich so my opinion matters.

Jump in the discussion.

60 hour week is 12 hours/day @ 5 days/week or 10 hours/day at 6 days/week.

And you gotta add in commute which will probably be another hour on average.

So you're gone for a half a day or more, come home tired as shit and spend your money during what little down time you have left.

Oh yeah, this is an excellent win for the workers.

Vacation days are determined by the company you work for and almost always coupled into PTO (that you lose also when you're sick).
