29, fat, ugly, unemployed, friendless, single, hopeless

I'm 29 and I've gained over 150 pounds in the last 2 years. I have stretch marks everywhere and yet I continue to eat. And I'm an alcoholic who drinks more than a 750mL bottle of hard liquor each day. I'm unemployed and lay in bed watching videos on my phone all day while Netflix plays in the background. I had an abortion in 2021 and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, maybe there would be someone to love me. On the other, I'm pathetic and would be a pathetic parent. When I'm not watching videos, I'm scrolling through social media and looking at everyone I know live their best life.

What's crazy is that I graduated high school early, went to a Big 10 university and graduated at the age of 20 with a biology degree. Started medical school at 22 and dropped out because I was on drugs and had a psychotic break. I ruined all of my friendships and relationships. I drink to forget about how I could have been a doctor but instead I'm a fat, ugly, worthless drunk.

I live with my parents and my grandmother. They're all good people but I spiraled into a crying fit today when my grandmother made a comment about my weight. I went downstairs to get food and my cousin said โ€œhere's some goulash if you want itโ€ and my grandmother said โ€œshe doesn't need it.โ€ Then smiled and laughed about it. I know what I look like, I know how much weight I've gained. I didn't need that. What's more, she used to be enormously overweight until her husband died and she lost weight from depression. She should know how hurtful that was.

I've been suicidal for the last 5 years and everyday I inch closer to it. I have no one and nothing to live for. This has all just been a tearful rambleโ€ฆ.

Honestly pretty sad. Tons of people burn out during high school/early college because society puts too much pressure on them. My philosophy (worked for me at least) is to chill out and coast during HS then actually apply yourself during college while all your peers/competitors are burnt out from their teenage Adderall additions.

The Ricecels that don't kill themselves in high school and college are the ones who passed the Great Rice Filter.

And as we all know, you wash rice multiple times.

The second Great Rice Filter is having enough money to pop out a rice child to repeat the process.

She said she had a mental break and she also alienated her friends

I've done plenty of drugs and had my frick up moments but I didn't alienate everybody

She's got some untreated mental issues and is too busy wallowing in her own filth to do anything about it

She's either going to hit bottom and rebuild or get used to that bum lifestyle soon, blow up even bigger and never do shit about it

Only hope is grandma keeps bullying her

I had major burn out in high school due to Asian-mom levels of parental pressure and being placed into advanced classes that overloaded me with homework. It caused me to not take college seriously at all and eventually dropping out.

Now I'm at the point of considering going back to school at nearly 40 because my career prospects are looking bleak.

Minor self-dox but as a recent medical student I feel her pain. Shit's hard man. I considered dropping out myself (not to do drugs but to go into tech instead) bc the return on value just keeps shrinking and to be actually rich you have to do some surgical specialty where you work 80 hrs/week in constant stress. But I pulled myself together to get the MD and now I can do whatever I want

That's the average doc.

Knock a few tens of thousands off when you're starting out.

Now consider that you're starting your career at 30 when the rest of the professional class is starting out at 22.

Now consider that very few med programs offer tuition aid, so you're likely $100k+ in debt.

Now consider that you have no skillset outside of clinical practice when more Americans are becoming accustomed to getting their check-ups done by NPs and PAs.

MDs have prestige, but if you want an easy way into the upper middle class, becoming a family practice doctor is a really stupid and uncertain way of going about it.

@Doc affirm me, trade school.

Wanna hear something cool?

I dropped out of medical school. It took me a year to realize that I did not actually want to be a doctor; I was just doing it because I thought it was what my parents wanted. Once I realized that they just wanted me to be happy, and that they would support me not matter what, I no longer had a reason to stay.

Now I work in Finance, and feel much better about my life and career. It's never too late to make a change.

This is a lie, your parents were secretly disappointed in your choices.

Yeah in my case the doubts started in like the end of my 2nd year so I pushed through. The MD makes it super easy to get into biotech or consulting or equity or VC etc. So tryna decide what route I want to go into
