They shouldn't. But that's not the issue. The issue is citizens who own multiple properties. Australians are fricking over other Aussies moreโฆ (37)

Deadset mate, this is an idiotic take. I don't think he needs your recommendation, seems to be doing fine for himself and you have no idea what they might have contributed to the country since they arrived. (4)

It wouldn't because it's massive over reach. Not everyone wants the nanny state and frankly is just divisive and racist - you already had a vote that involved that and it didn't go too well.A blanket ban on anyone who is just โnot a citizenโ from buying a house is ridiculous.Sensible policies in foreign investors buying up properties and not using them - that is something you can do. Laws exist about that kind of thing. It's real and practical. This suggestion from OP wouldn't be supported by the majority. (0)

Oh wow, never realised that. That's a bit weird - do you know the logic behind that? (2)

Why is it you types always go down the road of signalling over intelligence? Post degree mate and we can see who is more intelligent if this is the road you want to go down. (-2)

So what, people contribute to Australia so they deserve to have the same rights as citizens? More rights, in fact, since rich foreigners can come and buy housing pricing locals out. It's not idiotic at all, in fact what is idiotic is suggesting that non-citizens ought be allowed to do this at all.:

I agree it would be ridiculous, but this policy is not inherently dictatorial.Bringing it in without majority support would be. I also wouldn't vote it in, but do you really think many others wouldn't? I doubt that the majority would be against something like this. Racist messaging has been very effective. Exactly we had a vote and Aboriginals got shafted. Don't know why you would then assume people wouldn't be all for shafting foreigners as well. This is a despicably racist nation. Many people would hear this and instantly think it is a great idea. But again, the policy itself cannot be said to be dictatorial. Only the method of implementation, perhaps, if it went through without support. This is all hypothetical, I don't think anything like this will happen. Politicians and corporations are fucking the housing market way harder than foreign investors. But people would eat that shit up and vote for it if they could, and I'm a little surprised you think they wouldn't. Voldemort would...:

Permanent residency existed for a long period, because many countries would not allow you to hold dual citizenship, and since Australia is full of migrants, most of whom still had family overseas lot of them were not prepared to give up citizenship in their home country to become Australian citizens. That is why permanent residency exists. However, please be aware that the information you were given above is grossly incorrect. You can 100% lose your permanent residency status. In fact there have been multiple New Zealanders deported after having been residence in Australia since very very young. The only reason at the moment, the government tan and will revoke. Your permanency residency status is if you are convicted of a violent crime and sent to prison for more than five years. Don't quote me on the five years that could be wrong, (it's actually 12 months)but yeah serious crimes will have your permanent residency revoked and see you deported the second you finish your prison sent...:

It might be because you're coming off as stupid by oversimplifying a really complex topic and then insulting people when they poke holes in it. You could probably stand to be a little more tactful and step back to clarify what you mean instead of attacking someone based on their visaIn short you can still be a dumb fuck and have a degree.:
