How often does that happen?

Yet another reason I never want to moderate any online community tho

Not terribly often, but it's not rare enough that it's surprising or that I can even remember all the shit I've seen though there are some images seared into my brain. I cannot stress enough that this really is not a good community.

It really makes me despise shit like this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Infocalypse

and I am convinced that the only people who blather on about it are libertarians themselves.

No, sorry, an algorithm that automatically scans images for CSAM thumbprints is not an invasion of your privacy in any sense of the word and has zero impact on you and the only reason anyone would oppose such a thing is because they don't want to get caught.

Even rdrama went FULL LOGGING (i do not think they would lie about this, but, you and I have no actual way to confirm this) there's only so much you can do.

Something like NGINX (a solid web server) (apache is for poors and r-slurs) is going to catch the person's user agent (a self-reported string from your browser (if you're not r-slurred you can change your own user agent)), the person's IP address and a few other things that are all either self-reported or involve the website your browser is looking for.

IP address and user agent get you basically jack shit.

If someone lives in buttfrick nowhere, an IP can get you down to an individual address. Opposite end, if you're a citycel, an IP gets you an area containing thousands of people, maybe even more depending on how lazy/incompetent the ISP is (usually very).

User agents can be EASILY forged, but, most people don't know what they are/that they exist, much less to change them, which can get you something as specific as "safari on ios17" but that only tells you your perp is an iphon user somewhere in three zipcodes in california.

>What about cell phones?

You still get the same info, it's the same internet/protocol.

THEORETICALLY mobile providers keep logs of DHCP leases (the way your phone asks for the IP it gets) they hand out but realistically speaking they're too fricking cheap to buy edge announce machines that can actually fricking hold an ipv6 table in memory (poors btfo again) so they're using CGNAT (NAT at the ISP level) to share like five fricking ipv4 addresses between millions of subscribers (i'm slightly exaggerating).

Because of this, and because for about ten years now there's been a major brain drain at most major transit providers (hurricane electric IS the internet (sprintcels cope and seethe), seeing them get involving in the citrus ranch debacle was fricking shocking) and other major actual infrastructure (AWS is cute but they had to come bend the knee for peering like everyone else) companies, shit is falling apart. Because of that, actual commercial logs (cell phone providers, your ISP, etc) are spotty and fricked in ways they shouldn't be.

Don't forget that it's now offensive to ask about half the united states for any form of identification.

This culminates in a weird form of dystopian anarcho-tyranny: if you ACTUALLY piss off the fed boys, they can find you with cowtools that can do exactly what a five year old would think they could do.

Name, part of a name, general area, anything you can imagine. But, actually using any of this shit would heccin create potential securityfrickywuckies so ha ha oops we just can't stop all these heccin diddlarinos ha ha!

To reign in the bitter ranting and summarize, because literally nobody fricking cares about shit like this, much less understands it:

  • The administrator of a site like this can maybe identify the zipcode you live in from your IP address and that's about it. They can report what happened and that's about it.

  • Usually the fedboys take this shit seriously.

  • This is why most websites require some method of reporting you to the feds if you connect through tor and can also upload files.

  • This is why oldstrags who knew of the greybeards are so goddarn fricking protective of their/their people's kids.

  • There lurk horrors in the hearts of man that you can not conceive of. Frick the foids and frick the government property too; there is a unique type of post-traumatic stress that comes from seeing the lowest absolute most batshit evil that people are capable of and knowing it could just as easily be any of the people you think you know around you. It makes you paranoid in a way that is hard to be fully self-aware of and that lingers.

If you are the praying type, pray for the administrators of the good websites you use, they irretrievably lose pieces of themselves in the dark so we can dude bussy lmao in the light.

tl;dr: admiggers lol

does anyone below the age of 30 or so even care about internet privacy? i have never known an internet where all the websites don't log all your info and i really dgaf if they do. boomer schizos online always try to guilt-trip you for adhering to "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" but i see no reason to jump through all the hoops they scream you should go through to increase your privacy, and in my mind the benefits of libertarians and terrorists getting jailed far outweighs the thought of an intelligence agent watching me jack off

It is technically possible, if they record a special token created by cloud flare with our usernames. Then they could report this token with evidence to the authorities and CF would share info about location, IP, device, what other websites thy visit and it could lead to arrest.

I really appreciate the fruit of your labor.

How can we trust an algorithm? We need automated solutions for a task as colossal as keeping CSAM out of the internet, but how can we be sure it wouldn't invade privacy? Saying it's worth it is one thing, this is another and an idea I find interesting. :derpthinking:

wdym how can we trust an algorithm

it literally matches images with existing known csam images in a database

if it hits a certain number then its forwarded to someone for manual review

if its confirmed then you get v&

Most of the systems underlining the modern net are like this. All libertarians must die but I refuse to create literally the perfect dystopian system.

The systems that would let us eradicate libertarians would trivially be retasked to eradicate any other group.

Every civilization on earth has indulged in at least a little genocide (as a treat) and we're reaching the tech level that shit like this is actually dangerous.

If you told me an impassionate (but of course racist) AI was in charge of the whole thing, I'd roll with it.
