What's the deal with those recent affordable-but-highly-styled sportscars anyway? Lotus Emira as well.

I’d stay away from the Lotus. I had an Elise, and while they’re a lot of fun, they’re also more of a kit car quality than what you’d expect in a regular production car. If you’re in the US, service and parts availability is weak, and while the motors are common for parts, any specific Lotus part, especially bodywork, can get super expensive. Mine was written off when a FedEx truck tapped the rear clamshell where it meets the rest of the body. I turned it into a track slut.

Yeah, I seriously considered getting an Elise a while back, but my country doesn't even have a Lotus dealership, couldn't imagine how annoying anything related to parts and service would become. I'm literally just going to buy a house instead of a sportscar.

I sold an air-cooled 911 for a down payment on a condo and now the 911 is worth more than the condo.

Body work is expensive on any sports car since some of the internals are occasionally shared with other platforms but body work is always unique. Even on old sports cars this is a problem. Just don't crash like an r-slur.

It wasn’t as much the cost as the body part not being available for months. If I frick up one of my Porsches I can get a new panel the next day.
