I still know nothing about this man or what he did, but with how much redditors seethed about him, I can only assume it wasn't actually that bad

There was (IMO very warranted) concern that the NN repeal would lead to ISPs throttling/restricting/paywalling certain types of traffic (video streams, p2p stuff, etc) or certain websites. As in, you have to pay comcast sorry, ahem, xfinity an extra $10 a month to use youtube and netflix. But it ended up being (almost) a total nothingburger.
