It has sent ripples of fear throughout the Latinx community in Texas, which makes up 40% of the state's population

i wonder why :marseyquestion:

That's about as incorrect as you can be. Latinx where never even a over 10 percent of the population of Texas in all of history until something like the 40s. This includes all the prior years as a state, a republic, under Mexican rule, Spanish rule, and before. Unless you are talking about the rio grande valley, el Paso, and sort of San Antonio, having a bunch of latinx, let alone almost half the population, is insanely new and the direct product of mass migration (i.e colonizatio).

It does not. Mexicans never really settled Texas. The Spanish and then the Mexican army could not fight and win against the Comanche Indians. Then they tried missions and conversion but that didnt work. It really took the strategy of the Texas rangers and new cavalry doctrine to defeat the Comanches and ultimately settle Texas.

Spain and Mexico laid claim to Texas only on paper. In reality, they wouldn't dare step foot on the land and were unable to settle the area.

A lot of Mexicans hated "unification". The Yucatan is still angry about it.

I think the most mad I saw /r/nyc was when Adams announced libraries would be closed on sundays now due to the migrant budget. Its such a cliche libtard tipping point. Theres a swarm of economic migrant biomass demanding gibs? Thats a good thing. Theyre closing the library?!?!?! :soysnooseethe:

I absolutely love illegal immigrants going to sanctuary cities. Smug virtue signallers having to confront their luxury beliefs is endlessly entertaining.

Jump in the discussion.

Lol how is that constitutional? Immigration is federal jurisdiction, states have no authority to legislate border control.

This will likely be stay ordered in the coming weeks.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

As long as no one checks you on it you can get away with laws that blatantly violate the constitution if everyone is on board from executive to judicial, legislation.

Immigration is such a politically charged issue with a lot at stake and potential to frick a lot of ppls money up so surely this will be challenged by some activist group or another

Also it depends on a lot of shit. The national border is under federal jurisdiction but if Texas uses their own manpower, equipment, or resources to patrol they totally have the right to do this

bro Oregon gutted gun rights and New York City basically prevents you from even owning a handgun, the constitution is basically a piece of paper that says whatever you want since its a "living document" (to r-slurs)

Jump in the discussion.

Yet neighbors always got. Glocks in NYC it seems

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Idk an originalist argument doesn't actually support gun rights on a state level, restricting the power of states to regulate firearms through the incorporation of the second amendment through the 14th is more of a β€œliving document” argument.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The state preventing me from keeping and bearing arms violates the constitution and restricts my rights without due process, i.e I'm not a felon barred from owning firearms.

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

In the context of the originalist argument that applies to regulations by the federal government and incorporation under the due process clause is more of a stretch when compared to other rights. Idc about gun rights I'm just pointing out that orginalism doesn't actually support a constitutional protection of gun rights from state regulation. :marseyshrug:

Jump in the discussion.

Maybe the federal government could consider enforcing that policy then. Surely they'll be happy that the state would do their job for them :clueless:

I wonder whether it's legal for the Texas Dept of Wildlife or whatever it's called to place landmines on the border to control the migration of wild boars or leprosy-infested armadillos :marseyhmm:

Jump in the discussion.

Fair point since it's a national border, not a state border.

However if the feds won't allow Texas to do this, they might be coerced into providing federal funding to pay for lodging/power/water/food/security to manage an immigration facility.

There's not a lot of precedent in this case. Sure, the govt has laws on the books but if they don't enforce them and let the states get overrun by migrants I feel like the state has every right to do this
