Background

If you haven't already, definitely read the thread by @ProterozoicBussy , "Sandshit's collective brain power comes together to fight against the IDF's  AI photo" as it covers most of the intro information and it's a good read! (This is not a repost this is separate drama involving the same subject!!)

In this thread, we'll be covering about twitter user "hermitdeak" and his quest to prove that it is a real image to stubborn twitter users who are also probably r-slurred to some degree.

Recently, AI Generated artwork has become good enough to where it can be hard to distinguish from real photos.

This is especially prevalent after Bing Chat allowed it's users access to Dalle-3, which is better than pretty much every other one on the market (and for free! ) (I made some badass images of goku smoking cigarettes in the dark )

AI artwork is one of the main enemies of Twitter right now, because it is harder for small artists to charge insane prices for dumb stuff, when now you can get it for free. Things are not looking up for Israel either.

Intro: The Offending Photo

It all started when Israel fan Hillel posted a photo of two IDF soldiers kissing.

: I have no idea who they are or what the back story is, but I love this photo.

To a normal person like us, this may look like any other photo. But to the trained twitter eye, this photo is CLEARLY AI Generated. And we HATE AI

: Any particular reason as to why she has six fingers?

: She doesn't that extra one you're seeing is just the other side of her pinky finger's knuckle We're so fricked if people think this is AI generated already

Lot's of people smugpost about how they know it's AI and "they can always tell" (sounds like anyone we know? )

: No one shot this photo, it's AI. And bad AI at that.

Hillel was confused. There's no way this could be AI! so he reached out to the photographer for an answer...

: To all those who replied that this pic is AI, you are wrong. Just spoke to the photographer.

That was all the info he offered, so it's kinda his fault he got clowned on.

Loads of twitterers smugpost about how obvious it is that it's AI:

Some people dial it back and say maybe it wasn't AI, but an edit of an old photo to change the location

Obviously he's right. This photographer took an old grainy photo, used photoshop to somehow magically upscale it, change the background, and then slightly modify the poses.

This is the dumbest take I've ever seen in my life. How stupid do you have to be to think that is remotely possible or even worth the effort?? Now I'm the one raging

After a long and brutal day if getting clowned on, it's discovered that the photo was REAL??? But it was so confidently AI??

One Twitter user, Hermitdeak, found the Instagram of the photographer, and the image was posted early 2022, way before AI could get anywhere near as close to real as it is now.

: It's just a bad photoshop of a different image. The picture was originly taken under a tree, he took them out and put them on a city street and gave her a nonexistant gun to hold

: It's not a nonexistent gun and besides the poses, which aren't even the exact same, there is nothing similar about the 2 pictures when it comes to their outfits and folds of their clothes and whatnot. Occam's Razor, a photographer took a picture

: No gun looks like that. The strap is locked to an iron sight and it has a scope mounted on it crooked. Again, photoshop, clothing folds. Image editing programs have used algorithms to fill in and upscale details like that for years. Unedited photos don't look like this

: Yes IDF's guns do look like this. They use a crane mount to attach optics to their old outdated M4's. As for the sling attached to the carry handle, that's the stupid shit you get when you hand a 19yo a rifle they'll never use during their mandatory 2yr service.

Yeah because if there's one thing that photoshop is good at, it's upscaling images and preserving the details

That's right, professional photographers NEVER edit their photos after taking them. That would be FAKE.

: : Left is taken from below guy's head level, right taken from above, also the limbs are in different places and flexed at different angles. It's just more likely that it's two different pictures of the same pose rather than the left being an edit of the right. (free Palestine btw)
