Skill issue
Or do you mean
Inexplicably
For whatever reason
That you are trying to click the magnifying glass instead of pressing enter/search

I'm referring to that. I thought that was a standard feature on websites.
Go to reddit and click the magnifying glass and it works. I just checked a couple of blogs and sites to see if I'm not crazy and it worked there too.

Why would you lift your finger from the keyboard up more than half a screen away to tap the magnifying glass instead of just hitting the fricking enter key on the keyboard you're using

Habit. You're used to hitting "comment" "Post" on websites after typing something out. So it carries over to searches. I assume it's a common function on all websites for a reason. I mean, it's not a big deal. No need to seethe.
!codecels. Thoughts? Is this an inexplicable/stupid expectation?

Realistically I assume he'll make the magnifying glass clickable once he sees this
But until then I am going to defend it like there's no tomorrow

it's not an entirely unreasonable expectation given that clickable search icons slowly replaced discrete "search" buttons in most places, but you're still an r-slur for posting about it

The main reason I posted about it is because I associate the search icon being useless with crappy blogs . It reflects poorly on the site more than the fat black woman banners.

yes it's a stupid expectation but consistent UX language in the last decade has informed that expectation and devs are expected to conform to such "standards"

I'm going to assume the codecels agreeing with me here are correct and you're just ignorant .

I am the best kind of designer I do what I want and then get mad when the users are confused because I didn't follow "standards"

Sites should support both, a form without submission controls (unless it auto-submits like instant search) is stupid. The accessibility is horrible and it's just confusing in general.
