South Korea finished 2023 with a record low TFR of 0.72 children per woman. Pic related is the demographic pyramid of SK. Remember that by 2050 that small cohort at the base will be the one having babies, and if current trends are not reversed by then that small cohort will be slashed by 2/3rds upon the post 2050 generation. It is projected that by 2067, 47% of Koreans will be 65+.
It's so over for Joseoncels.

We read that one too, but it sucked. How the frick old is Pearl supposed to be??!!!
(yes, I'm still unironically seething about a shitty symbolist novel I was made to read 15 years ago. I wish Nathaniel Hawthorn were still alive so he could see my scathing Goodreads reviews and feel bad about himself)

The prose style sucked big time. It wasn't even historically accurate.

The WORST book I've ever had to read but I've come around to the interpretation that the book is a satire on symbols in literature and Hawthorne is yanking everyone's chain by continuously changing what each symbol stands but everyone takes it at face value.

It's easily my least favorite assigned book in my entire schooling history.
