Windows 3.11: Bahn sucht Administrator fΓΌr 30 Jahre altes Betriebssystem
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has a "new" job opening for a Windows 3.11 Admin.
The lucky candidate should also be able to manage MS-DOS and Windows Workgroups.

What's the job market like for COBOL programmers? Do they get paid well?

Superficial google search says you can expect around 100k a year, but if you get called up for emergencies you can bill at like 150 bucks per hour.

sorry to powerlevel but billing out at $1200 a day isn't some super big brag. You should be billing at $3000 a day for an emergency, at least.

True story: In 2021 one of my boomer relatives quit his job at a major US raw materials manufacturer after a teleconference where they had everyone state their pronouns. As he told it - he heard them say that, a couple people went, when his turn came up he said "nope" and ended the call, then emailed the COO "I quit." He's retired military and has a good bag already.
Six months later they call to offer his job as contractor position They couldn't find anyone to replace him with those boomer process management skills. He now gets paid double, with a quarter of the responsibilities, and never has to go to the office unless it's a site visit.

Boss tried to get me to learn COBOL back in 2011 when I worked for a company that produced mainframe software.
I was like "lol are you fricking r-slurred? I'm not 65 years old..."
Really can't wait for shit to hit the wall.
