The game even tries too trick you off by flipping the typical morality color scheme. Destroy was in red (renegade) but Anderson's (a paragon) choice. Control was in blue (paragon) and represents the Illusive Mans (renegade) choice. Even in the end the only one where there is a possibility of survival is destroy aka red

TOS could be a western, a courtroom drama, actual scifi, war movie, whimsical romance. ME1 was made to be a foundation for that.

It was very in depth as far as the lore went too it explains all the tech in a realistic way (well realistic as long as you accept a magical mass-altering compound) and had a codex section that collection important information and a cool sounding narrator.
The later games went a little less realistic but the first one has heavy hard sci-fi vibes unlike Star Wars or Star Trek and had a pretty unique atmosphere and at that time was super original since the only thing comparable was KOTOR which was set in an already established sci-fi fantasy setting.
