Ben Shapiro on Medicare and Social Security: "No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old. Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem." pic.twitter.com/hpOzS7q4V1

Oh hi @The_Homocracy:
Who then has to battle rightoids to defend his position:
Cbf linking them all Ben retweeted them so they are on his profile.

Its kinda funny and is another perfect example of rightwingers, which, just like leftwingers, only know talking points yet never realize their own hypocrisy when their talking points cross wires.
"No! We need SS for our retirees or they'll die!" "Yes the system is broken but thats not the point!"
SS is a fricking scam and everyone paying into it now will only ever get a fraction of that back. The US Gov has been dipping into SS to get money to fund its pet projects while giving seniors an IOU that they're never going be alive enough to cash that in, leaving us with the bill.
Everyone on SS should be grandfathered in and they get their stipend until they die. No new SS people. Its been like 30+ years of public knowledge that SS sucks, if your retirement plan involves living off on only SS today you deserve to die from your own poor financial choices.
You're literally better off with an automated 401k or even a high yield savings account where you'd put the money taxed for SS to go into for 30-40+ years. At least its your fricking money and the government cant hold it over your head as easily as your SS
"balance."
@The_Homocracy you can fight me on this
Frick yes please. And yes it is because I make a lot of money. Frick poor people.

Social security is a mandatory system because irresponsible and incapable people don't prepare for the unknown. It's a bare-minimum safety net to take care of the neediest.

That's a thought. Also, however, social security helps keep the neediest off the streets and reduces crime. Obviously it leaves something to be desired.

Yes I have. Those are the most mentally-ill, criminally-minded, and addicted people that need more than just social security. Many of them use their benefits to subsidize their lifestyle. Some cool bars around there, though.

Actually they have and do. The homeless could walk around spreading leprosy. Ideally they live in a social-security funded old folks home if they have nowhere else to go.

What shithole do you live in that leprosy is a thing? Also it's curable, with costs covered by the WHO. And if these people have the strength and ability to wander about while disease ridden then surely they can still work.

Then why doesn't government make it (a) opt-in, (b) mandatory for people without any savings accounts, (c) require x% into a savings account, and (d) allow ownership over that savings account to, you know, one donating?
Because it's not about forcing poor people to save. It's a special income tax with a loose promise to pay out some unknown amount of money in the future.
C'mon, sweaty....
You too, @The_Homocracy. Your ideal vision of how SS works is not relevant to the real world.

It's
A: about making everyone chip in to help support the lowest of the low s in your country, if you know poor people you know 75% of them would starve to death within one week of having to retire if it didn't exist.
B: granting a huge pool of money to the government, don't worry, it's gonna be there for you eventually

Because dumbasses will choose not to pay for it, then not put anything into retirement, then the government will have to pay to take care of them anyway, because dumbass people have dumbass children.

You know how SS already takes out money from their paycheck?
Yes sweaty, the same thing will happen to those who don't qualify for opting out.

Because r-slurs like you grow up and society has to step in and take care of you at adult assisted living homes lest you hurt yourself and others. There is a bare-minimum benefit everybody gets regardless of paying into the system (healthcare) and a scaled pension when you retire or become disabled. These are pretty critical and are universal benefits available across the world via statute or tribal laws/culture. "It takes a village." I'm wasting my time serious posting though
13.5% tax is very reasonable for a safety net you don't immediately see. I wish I had my money. I probably won't get a 100% ROI from 65-85 or whenever I die. But just like roads in the midwest and rail lines across the country I still benefit from being taxed to help fund those systems (and so do you) even if I don't use them.
Jump in the discussion.

They can still require r-slurs without savings to have a savings account. Heck, they could even improve the system and increase well-being for everyone. But they don't because it's not really about savings for poors. It's a special income tax.
There's bullshit, and then there's reality.

How are you going to monitor and decide if every fricking citizen is saving enough for retirement to qualify for an opt out? How can you be sure that they will actually use that money for retirement instead of blowing it on something stupid?
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
Calculate what they already pay out to poors through the current SS system. If that future amount would require too much of their current income percentage-wise, then supplement it with welfare subsidies (as they already do). That's the bare minimum. If you're already saving enough to meet this bare minimum (which pretty everyone does if they max out their IRA), then you can opt-out.
Penalize them, like government does for anything when people don't follow its rules. They can take (and have taken) money from your bank account. They can freeze assets. They can do all sorts of things, so I don't see what the problem is with compliance.
Even under the current system, you can ask the same question too.

So you want the IRS to expand and have more power? You want to get rid of a relatively simple system that is adequate for one that is more complicated, probably won't work, and requires more government oversight.
This is ignoring the fact that they already blew their money on something stupid. So you are going to fine these r-slurs who already now don't have a enough to provide for themselves due to dumb money decisions, and the government now has to take care of them.
Again, you are the reason why society needs a social security system.

No, and it doesn't need to.
It isn't. And it's wasteful in terms of its stated goals.

You opt-in with your citizenship and may opt-out if you'd like.
Making it optional is r-slurred. Reread what I said. If you'd like to learn more read about the new deal and the great depression.

The bare minimum can come from taxes (you know, how welfare and its subsidies work). It doesn't need to be set as an additional income tax while also "wasting" money paying out to SS accounts that don't need the money.
This really isn't hard to understand. It acts as a special income tax. It's not called that because gullible people like nice sounding sentiments even when they don't tract with reality.

It's a public health and safety program. It isn't strictly a retirement program for people of old age. Everybody benefits so everybody pays. It is a tax. Anybody that says otherwise is probably an r-slur with an agenda like neoconservatives.

Counterpoint: people are stupid so the government needs to save for them or otherwise we'll have a bunch of old people dying in the streets like before SS. I don't want to have to look at more poors on my way to work
