The lore used to be the godless vermin would be put to good use by being added to a wall like a brick for all eternity. This angered the atheist nerd demographic so it got removed.

It's one of my lowkey favourite things about fantasy settings in roleplaying, God/s are demonstrably real so all the grumpy little atheists who love to shit on Christianity (and only Christianity) get confronted with religious figures being sane and right. Can't just dismiss the local priest as an idiot who has an imaginary sky friend when said sky friend gives him all sorts of useful powers.

It can be fun to play up that faith angle a bit because it makes them mad. Just had a bit of that in a recent game, actually, with players resenting being considered evil by the church for using certain magic, and the church people saying, you can feel that way, but you're literally opening portals to Heck to do your tricks, you just don't want to acknowledge that God has a reason to think that's a bad idea.
