reposting mine here:

We have not been able to address these issues with any real honesty or integrity to treat Indigenous children like other Australian citizens

If these children were treated like other Australian citizens, they would have been removed from a dangerous home. But that can't happen because err-my-gahd-stolen-generation.

Looks like /u/dredd realised someone's been thinking independently in his little fiefdom. And if it wasn't you mate? Control your fricking mod team - they're worse than ACMA.

Can someone explain what is going on? And why is this a thing in Alice Spring everyday?

It's a city full of ignorant people. The government gives them money and they drink alcohol and get drunk. It's one of the places you'll never go to in Australia, a place I personally wouldn't consider going either. Watch "Spanian - Alice Springs" on YouTube to see what kind of place it is.

:#marseynoooticer:

The y'alled thread has a surprising amount of based comments that haven't been mopped:

My sister and I can't see eye to eye over the issue. I've been out there and seen reality. She's a city dwelling ‘don't be racist' type. I just wish she would travel and see/experience the hard truth. Shits fricked. No easy solution. But turning a blind eye isn't the answer either.

Same, spent ten years in WA and NT in exploration mining and rebuilding aboriginal buildings.

Can't even talk to the family about aboriginal affairs because they think aboriginals can do no wrong. The shit I saw in Tennant Creek and the Pilbara is mind blowing. My family has the hide tell me all about how bad the communities have it when they've never been with in cooee of a community.

:#platythink:

I really wish everyone in Aus could go spend some significant  time in Aboriginal communities, and some of the outback towns (Alice Springs, Kalgoorlie, coober pedy etc).

What's happening out there is fricked, I spend a fair bit of time in Aboriginal communities and outback towns (Alice and Coober pedy regularly), and it's no joke worse than pretty much every third world country I've been to.

You'll gain a pretty grim outlook on it, and probably come back slightly racist (that's not a dig, just a reality of what's going on out there)

I don't have the long term solution, but there needs to be much heavier police presence in the larger towns than there is currently to keep people safe in the short term. A youth curfew is going to do less than nothing there.

Spent 2 years in coober, never again. constantly going out to places like Oodnadatta, Williams creek and other areas I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

The sheer Violence of it.

Watched an Indigenous fellow beat the snot out of his missus at the servo then attempt to set fire to her and the car.

while on the way to check on the work yard one night another indigenous fellow set fire to the police station (which had people in it) I saw it happen as I was coming back home I then had to ring the station and let them know.

and that is just two small instance's of many that I witnessed

that shithole is the absolute wild west of Australia and they have the largest contingent of police outside of Adelaide iirc

:#marseyracist:

If you go after the police when they rightfully do their jobs (disregarding that particular officers personal views and beliefs) then police will be less inclined to fully enforce the law for fears of similar witch hunts.

Something needs to happen in Alice Springs though, they cleaned it up for like 3 days when Albo went to visit a year or two ago to make it seem like it's not as bad but that's just standard rug sweeping for a pollie visit.

Yeah, this is pretty much spot on.

Can't really blame the NT Police for doing what some of the community, and their bosses, demanded - disengage, don't act, and don't prevent.

It's a shame the communities that actually deal with the consequences of those calls have to cop it, but hey, frick all cops, right Sydney and Melbourne?

I think Sydney and Melbourne people are all living in their tight leftist million dollar houses with no understanding of the real suffering of the world.

Don't worry, they'll acknowledge the traditional owners of the land at the beginning of their meetings , pay respects to elders past present and emerging and pat themselves on the back and all the problems will be solved.

:#marseyjaguarwarrior:

All the people I know who worked in remote communities came back slightly more racist, ashamed of the fact they were but not willing to say it was wrong.

I did close to 20 years working in communities, part of which was in a criminal justice role. I feel nothing but respect for Aboriginal people collectively and recognise the racism and discrimination these communities experience daily. I saw some terrible things but it was a select few, not a majority. These communities have the highest suicide rates in the country and no one steps in, its only when violence crosses over to white businesses that people start caring.

Not alice springs but Spanian visiting Darwin was pretty funny. This guy spent 10 years in prison for stabbing a dude in the neck and even he was wondering wtf was wrong with the place :marseyxd:
