Reddit darling pizzacake criticizes the Canadian healthcare system. Redditors *do not* take it well.

https://old.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1bmk3u3/healthcare?sort=controversial

The comic in question makes the same uninspired complaints you've all heard before: long wait times, not enough doctors, not actually free. Spicier then her usual "look at me I'm a quirky girl" comics, but still long and unfunny.

The reactions, however, are hilarious.

What kind of right-wing talking point nonsense is this? Pizzacake is a secret conservative? First time I've ever been disappointed in their comics.

:marseyleftoids#chizo:

Fricking stupid comic. Honestly.... Who rails against free healthcare. What kind of self loathing ignorant propaganda Muppet rails against free healthcare. Into the cesspit with you and your I'll

"FREEEEEEEEEEEEE"

:soyjaktantrum#:

As an American, this is an awful comic. The privilege you have living in Canada with your healthcare system. My god, you even suck as a person.

:marsey#maid: < privilege

This is a pretty egregious comic. First of all, the only thing you're accomplishing with this is sending the message that single payer healthcare is bad. I get that's not what you meant, but it's what you did, and it's dumb as heck. It's also just not true. Yes, the Canadian healthcare system is understaffed...(this goes on and on)

:soysnooseethetyping#:

Pizzacake being a US right-wing adjacent talking-point slinger doesn't surprise me for some reason...

:marseyleftoidschizo#:

This one's gonna be used by conservatives as "proof" that the American healthcare system is somehow better.

:marseyleftoidschizo#: (this Marsey is so useful)

My favorite comments are the ones accusing her of being American.

USA trying its hardest to justify its fricked up system

She's Canadian, not American

I know, I read her responses, my meme still aplies tho

:marseyemojir#ofl:

All in all, quite a bit of seetheposting from poor amerifats that can't afford insurance. Probably her best comic ever. !pinknames

>Texan here. If the USA you just die.

Healthcare isn't really that expensive if you have insurance through your company. Do 99% of redditors that b-word about american healthcare just not have a job?

Do you deserve to complain if you're a freeloader? :hmm:

It's the best healthcare in the world unless you're a broke r-slur, so of course redditors hate it. I'd trade them shitty Canadian healthcare in a heartbeat.

Even Medicaid probably isn't that terrible compared to the rest of the world. We do have a lot of problems with our health care system (like the government getting massively ripped off) but I don't think there's many people uninsured anymore.

fun fact, even if you're broke you can legit just pay a dollar a month to your healthcare bill and nothing will happen

Hospitals have to treat you in the US no matter your medical debt lol

Right like you just say "my name is A Pimp Named Slickback", get treated, and walk out the door. They can't not treat you.

900% of stories of healthcare bankruptcy is almost assuredly from people gambling with how long they think they can get away with not paying for insurance and losing.

I would say they do have a job but Reddiors have zero ambition outside of doing the bare minimum so they can go home and play vidya instead of trying to get a career advancement.

This laziness is of course the fault of capitalism, though.

Both. Wheelchair for when I've got to carry something because that's a massive pain in the butt on crutches. You gotta wear cargo pants and hope stuff fits in the pockets.

There are some healthcare plans where if you don't read the fine print you can really get fricked. Example:

Had a kid a couple years ago, we were on foidwife's insurance. Figured it was state employee insurance, we're good, right? Well turns out that the max deductible still required 10% of all costs from the insured after that. $8k out of pocket as a hospital bill after insurance was a fricking surprise lmao

We were able to foot it just fine, but switched over to my insurance right after for a full coverage after deductible plan, and got a little more wise after that pain in the butt

I am constantly amazed that peeople dont know what a max OOP is.

Well whatever ours was on that plan, I can see how it would wreck the types of people who can't readily pay for a few grand within a month or two.

Funny side point: I remember going over the itemized bill and the dichotomy between two points made me laugh:

  • lactation consultant spending 5 minutes in the room (useless): ~$700

  • 200 oxy pills: $1.80 total

Coinsurance is really common but there's typically a max out of pocket. Which was probably close to 8k for a family plan. So it's not really infinite, and you can't incur costs above a certain limit (probably around 10k for a family plan) per year.

In my student days in Boston, I would just claim my income was 0 and file taxes in my home state. Got free healthcare no questions asked, it paid for an MRI I wanted, PCP, had good mental health coverage, etc. Even freeloaders here have better healthcare than most of the world

The important thing to understand is that though most Americans are doing well financially, the majority also think that other Americans are struggling. There was this Economist article where they polled people and 80% said that they were personally doing well but also 80% said that most people were struggling. Every American thinks there are faceless masses of struggling impoverished Americans crushed under medical debt and inflation, they just haven't met any.
