My hospital has decided to honor the physicians by making posters that have pictures of DO/MD and also NP/PAs… we literally can't even get a day lol. Nurses get a whole week and good for them honestly. But why are we celebrating “our medical staff” on doctor's day. It literally is called DOCTOR'S day. Pls

Doctor want to get paid for being a room for 5 minutes max, they delegate every other part of their job. Most refuse to see patients with complex problems or medicaid. Do they write their own notes? No, they use scribes/templates that arent very flexible. Are the diagnosis codes their scribes input accurate? No. Do the doctors care? No.
Does the patient's problem need more than a google search to figure out? Refer to specialist. Can the specialist make a crap ton of money off fixing your problem? No? Not worth the OR time then. Refer the patient to a hospital.

Doctors are fricking morons and the moment I realised this was when I stopped deifying them. Mostly family doctors/GPs.
Seriously, even if they've retained all of the info shatted out at them during medical school, they typically have zero social skills, no ability to think on the spot, but are also constantly whining about not being fellated and being”underpaid”.
GPs in Australia are constantly whining that the Medicare rebate for consults is too low; and that's the ONLY reason why doctors tend to rush you in and out of appointments and don't have time to do properly examine - they have to do x amount of consults per day to “earn enough”.
But even the lowest paid GPs in my country who are only receiving the public health rebate for their services are earning up to 200/300k a year. It's just that they want to be earning the millions of dollars a top of the line specialist would earn just for kissing boo-boos and giving antibiotics out. Nah bro, you're not underpaid just because more talented doctors get to be millionaires

I learned the hard way that you need to be an absolute c*nt to doctors during serious situations,
A lot of them just want to get out of the room ASAP. My mom was very ill during a complex situation. We had Indian doctor came in and spew gibberish then leave. After a few weeks of this we learned that you have to bully the nerds into doing their job or else they will do as little as possible
It's you or a loved ones life and it's just another day at the job for them.

Why do nurse practitioners even exist? As far as I can tell they are basically nurses that get to act as doctors without all the schooling doctors had to go through, but there isn't like a way to go from NP to MD so I don't understand why we have a cope doctor role?

it's because the US has, thanks to the AMA, strictly limited the supply of attendings available, thus leading to many fewer doctors available. That isn't a sustainable situation, so NPs exist to fill that gap.

Because it doesn't take much intelligence or require much knowledge to act as a generic GP. The software beeps if you're doing something wrong, and there's another layer of defence with the pharmacist (and his software) picking up any medication clash. You're just filling out generic scripts for medication that people have already been taking for years 90% of the time.

Back in the 80s there were too many doctors. Schools stopped credentialing so many, but overshot the mark. So nurse practitioners have filled the gap.
