Californians sneeding over AB205, bill designed to raise power bills even higher, proportional to income. :marseyxd:

https://old.reddit.com/r/AskLosAngeles/comments/18rmo5x/is_there_a_way_to_stop_los_angeles_electricity/?sort=controversial

Didn't see any drama threads about this. Governor Newsom signed a bill that would raise utility bills for Californians based on income.

Under $28,000 income β€” $24 per month

$28,000 to $69,000 income β€” $34 per month

$69,000 to $180,000 income –$73 per month

Over $180,000 income β€” $128 per month

This is on top of current utility rates.

Commiefornia Redditors in the thread explain they're happy to pay the increases while others are screaming for the heads of PG&E execs (and a few for the legislators who actually passed this lol)

Solar users are irate that they are also going to be charged regardless

It's kinda funny how the government still wants its due even if you go out of the way to set up solar or collect rainwater or whatever. Oh you switched to an electric vehicle? Now you have to pay this tax because you're no longer paying taxes on gasoline. :marseymerchantsoy:

Not strange at all unless you go completely off grid (and maybe even then). The system costs are all still there and people expect to use power when they need to, effectively making solar users into an economically regressive form of parasites under the current system.

Lot of people are in for a rude awakening in the coming decade or two.

Yes. Powers to be are actually afraid every household will go to solar. And then grid blows up on cloudy days.

But they dont have solution to this. Energy bills are going up. Solar panels are getting better and better and cheeper. And becouse they are lying sacks of shit. They cant say it like it is.

Pump-storage hydro is pretty cool. Shame that the same treehuggers who push solar also categorically oppose creation of hydro that would make this practical.

Khancoban, New South Wales

I saw parts of the snowy hydro project earlier this year at Kosciusko. Some parts are operational, and have been for a while. The new parts are still being completed but I couldnt get close to those to take pics

The above pic is the Murray 1 station which has ten 95mw generators. Water from this flows to another power station, then back to the river at the bottom of the mountain

i don't think it makes as much as eraring, which is a coal plant that makes a large % of the states power. Hydro is pretty cool and actually renewable but this is literally the only place on the continent where it can work

Hydro is very effective but can obviously only exist where there's water going downhill from a high altitude

Solar and wind is a meme for shit eating green cucks who can't wait to pay execs millions in subsidies from their own wallets

:marseyagree: this is the tallest mountain in the country and the only place it snows.

>Solar and wind is a meme

chink garbage which has a service life of less than 20 years. Just gonna end up in a landfill. So renewable.

The above hydro station has been operating since the 1960s and won't be stopping any time soon.

Same with nuke plants, last of which were made in the 80s except for that new Finnish one.

I think the subject of power generation more than anything else reveals the malicious ideological capture and depravity in western states. The people in charge could have fixed the human impact on the climate 20 years ago if they wanted to by building nuclear energy and hydro plants 30 years ago. Either they don't actually want to, or climate change isn't affected by human activity. Those are the only two options.

Offshore wind is goated and bullshit """environmental""" laws are the only reason picrel isn't giving everyone free energy

Pump storage hydro is completely unviable except in places where there already is natural hydro, and even then it's horribly inefficient.

I believe it's fairly efficient sir. Turbines are quite good at what they do.

Of course there are solutions, just change the pricing scheme.

The point is that home solar isn't a viable solution (at scale) if people want grid access at the same time to compensate for their intermittent power.

That would fall under saying it like it is.

If only there was a way we could store excess power that we generate. Oh well maybe in a few hundred years we'll come up with that kind of technology.

Jump in the discussion.

Storing massive amounts of energy is actually very expensive. We currently do not have a good solution that would make solar a viable large scale energy source

Nah theyre pretty good. Uncle got a bunch and after paying almost a grand in bills a month eternally cooling his home with A/C in every single room, he cut down to lile $100 after getting solar. 90% discount for nonstop usage. Shits good.

Who the frick had 1k a month ac bills?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

My uncle did. He said he never turned them off, including central for the living room, individual room acs for each room (5 of them), ac in his art studio downstairs and his wifes arts and crafts 1 room building... dude basically never wanted his internal temperature to drop when at home. Super wasteful but hey when you're a richstrag you can do a lot kf wasteful shit

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I'll put it this way, the amount of solar panels you'd need to generate 1k a month of electricity is a lot more than 1k a month.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I personally dont know or care tbh, its just what he told us. Still, as I said before, dude is a radiologist richstrag. He spent a quarter million just on landscaping alone (tbf its amazing just chilling in his front yard jungle). I dont know how he rationalizes expenses outside of "lol can pay it off anyway" or if they even make sense. His water bill is also massive just to keep that jungle forest alive.

Not strange at all unless you go completely off grid (and maybe even then).

I remember seeing discussions of the fact that we're hitting an inflection point for many people where just running a diesel generator to power your home is cheaper than using the grid. But of course California is pushing to make this illegal.

lots of installers add battery backups for solar installation nowdays, and battery tech is also getting exponentially cheaper. In a decade or two everything will be solar + battery which is no problem in socal.

At least in my state as long as the vehicle is considered a light duty vehicle, which duallys and such are too, then licensing cost is just an equation based off of the value of the vehicle and doesn't really even care about the difference between a 2800 lbs civic and a 9000 lbs diesel dually.

Semi licensing is the expensive one. I pay 5k a year for my semi + trailers in licensing.
