“Rejection sensitivity dysphoria” AKA are we just going to pathologize every single negative human experience now?

Not really drama so much as a term I heard recently when a girl said she had RSD. Having never encountered this word, I looked it up and seems like it's a term used to describe feeling extremely bad when rejected, except of course now it has a “diagnosis” type sounding label, and people with adhd say it's different for them, it's a disorder.

A picture from /r/adhdwomen for your edification:

Or course Redditors apply it to themselves like a girl scout collecting badges:

The funny thing is that a good way to frick with overly sensitive self-diagnosers is to deny RSD exists.

Edit: ithe D stands for dysphoria, not disorder lol

Are you having a common experience that humanity universally regards as unpleasant? No! You have experience dysphoria disorder. You must:

  • make it your entire personality

  • allow it to ruin relationships and friendships

  • take expensive medication that doesn't help but makes you feel terrible in other ways

This is more an issue with how we TREAT these labels, rather than giving it a label at all. I wanna know why so many people are useless :marseyreading:

Because they aren't actually debilitating in the true sense of the word.

we see these people as useless cute twinks because we have to deal with their neuroticisms and demands on society.

On the other hand… they're satisfied. They're still eating, being housed and finding leisure. They find community in the likeminded and revel in tearing down dissenters.

It's a characteristic, not an etiology.

Giving it a new label provides no explanatory power.

True, but some labels that these labels strip away/replace specifically avoid explanation. It's like we're giving ourselves permission to ask questions.

It's all very dumb. Labels are dumb. But we need them to think how we do, because human are r-slurs.
