I've never quite got why student protests are given so much attention, they are basically only inconveniencing themselves not turning up to lectures they paid for. It's far more annoying if they try close a road

They were more impactful before complete privatization of schools. In the US it was the children of the social elite, so ofc they got media coverage. In eastern europe student protests were a big catalyst for the fall of gommunism :marseyfugg:

The students are a big unemployed body of politically motivated people so they are easy to harness for your cause

unemployed body of mindless zombies so they are easy to harness for your cause

Please stop acting like 20 somethings with no real world experience can be "politically motivated".

They can't even be motivated to get out of bed and go to an exam.

PHD in Philosophy sweaty.

You really can't get more liberal than that.

Why did you get that degree?

I double majored in Computer Science and Philosophy and always wanted to get a PHD. Being called "Dr. Hypernovasaiz" just makes me rock hard instantly.

Becoming a lawyer was my backup if I didn't enjoy being a developer and philosophy was the best prereq for that and also one of my favorite things to study (except metaphysical bullshit).

Philosophy also had great overlap with Computer Science and History (one of my minors).

So just kinda came together like that.

>likes philosohy but not metaphysics

Literally why at that point

Jump in the discussion.

Cause metaphysics is literally bullshit and a good portion of philosophy deals with language which has wide applications and bearings on law.

But what does getting a PhD have to do with being a developer? You don't need a PhD to do that.

Which is exactly why I got a PHD in Philosophy and not in Computer Science.

I remember in my freshman year realizing that people outside of my major had a shit ton of free time in their schedules :marseyitsallsotiresome:

liberal arts majors were taking "astronomy" and "physical science" where they had homework that asked if pluto was a planet (use two paragraphs) and they were like "ughhh an essay question..."

I did that in sixth grade wtf

I'm not kidding this was an assignment I saw a bunch of arts majors get for their science class.

:marseyfoidretard: "Is pluto a planet sweeties? Do you know? Has there been debate about that?"

Am I just a weird nerd for thinking that's an underwhelming thing to assign college students? It's not because I went through an :autism: space phase special heckin' interest when I was young, right? I feel like this is something you could learn on PBS kids but maybe I vastly overestimate what the average person is supposed to know :marseyhmmm: :marseythonk: :marseyconfused2:

As a journo, would you rather try and do some actual reporting, or go back to your alma mater and do a 'these kids today' article from whichever perspective you need to?

Also, they're an evergreen subject. 'The state of the next generation' articles, especially when critical, have been popular for millennia.
