ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. If you want tech to COME BACK, VOTE FOR TRUMP. Trump wants to impose massive penalties on companies that off shore jobs. Dell, one of the most American companies there is, has 120 software engineer jobs open. Only 13 are USA jobs and 50 are India. This NOT OKAY. This is GREED. America needs to come FIRST in America.
If Argentina's Milei can turn the country around so quickly, so can Trump (who runs in the same ideals). The economy is NOT okay. It just looks okay for Biden. People are poorer than ever right now. Job numbers look okay but that's only for retail, service and labor. Every skilled white collar sector is hurting.
DO NOT let the H1Bs at work bully you into being against Trump. They're not even citizens, their opinions are irrelevant and do not matter.
The H1B's have invaded the work place at all levels and have been internally lobbying for preference towards H1B candidates and off shoring for years. They don't care about Americans because they aren't Americans themselves.
We have massive layoffs and 85k H1B's coming in every year. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE!!! It doesn't. There is NO WAY to make it make sense.
If you want your $500k TC or whatever ato last long term and not be devalued, vote for Trump.

My experience is that h1bs tend to have at least some level of competence. While offshored engineers are a net negative for productivity.

My experience is that there's not a huge difference between any of the big tech codecels I work with (offshore, h1b, full time engineer) and banning the H1Bs won't do anything unless we also ban other countries from studying CS.

My company may just be going for cheap labor. For me they tend to look at only the surface requirements for output and completely ignore everything else. They will take a month to complete a story that mostly gives the output we want but with a completely different implementation than what was outlined. "Fix" bugs introducing more bugs. (Legit had someone break saving functionally to fix a bug where saving would spawn an erroneous error popup) Make a PR with all the related tests commented out. It is an absolute disaster and I feel our code based getting worse with each PR from them that is merged.

You still don't get it. The US tech field has grown enough vertically that there are bottom tier tech jobs that are outsourced to poor nations. If you are a seat filler whitey then you have jeets in your office because you are working the low paying end of your field.

If you work in AI you really should be angling for a business analyst focused skill set. The key there is to prepare a pivot into a business intelligence product owner role. Don't let yourself be an AI individual contributor unless you are a PhD level working at an org with fat piles of cash to train their own models. 5 years from now there's going to be a small pointy tip-of-the-spear set of data scientists doing true AI building, and the real money for most people is going to be in the "AI power user" persona, i.e., people who understand AI use cases but have the applicable knowledge of how to apply prebuilt or otherwise out of the box toolsets that enhance the capabilities of skilled white collar workers.

Once you offshore you're dealing with companies rather than individuals, so it becomes a game of billing for maximum hours for minimum work. Shit like having 10 useless people attend every meeting so that you can bill 10 hours. Producing quality code would reduce the hours billed for bug fixing.
