Poly people are often depressed because "poly" to them can mean their partner threatened to walk if not allowed to sleep with others. Or they got involved with someone who already has a partner because they have 0 self-esteem. And from personal experience hooking up is emotionally unfulfilling and has often left me feeling shitty.

I could see it working out in limited circumstances where a small group of 3 or 4 people have very defined roles that are comfortable for them, but i think its mostly just people justifying unhealthy relationship dynamics with a meme phrase. Ultimately though these people are making these choices freely so :marseyshrug:
