Just get a Black Aces tactical 12 gauge. It's semi auto and only like $500.

Get a handgun. Sig P320 or Walther PPQ. Go with 9mm, get a holster, and practice drawing and shooting (separately because you can't have fun in Portland unless you go out to the boonies).

Shotgun is kinda dumb and redundant since you've got an AR-whatever.

I don't think a rifle is a wise choice for home defense in an apartment. A shotgun is a much better option. Plus it would be way cooler to sneak up on someone and to get their attention, you can cch-cch a round into the chamber, and when they turn around with fear in their eyes you say, "Welcome" before putting a hole in their chest.
