A first date should be something simple and cheap. The whole point is to get like ~2 hours where you can talk to each other and learn more about each other and decide if you want to continue. Should be something like a walk in the park, grabbing some coffee, etc. These are also better options than a dinner date because it's easier for either party to "bail".

The kind of women who refuse to go on a first date unless it's paying for their whole dinner just aren't worth the effort.

If more men realized this the practice would end. Keep in mind these are guys paying for dinner dates on the regular without getting a relationship out of it.

I've been told they added it because the way their algorithm works it effectively gives you a secret attractiveness score based on the swipes you give and get and without the filter minorites would get their scores absolutely tanked by people who would never date a minority.

I'm didn't have the app filter out black women, but I very rarely swiped right on them. The reason for that was the proportion of black women who referenced Jesus in some way in their profiles. That is a hard dealbreaker for me, and in my experience swiping on the apps, black women were proportionally more likely to include overt religious statements when describing their identities, and that's just something that I'm not interested in.
