Google has really cranked up the war on yt-dlp and other Youtube alternatives. Used to be they wouldn't purposely try to break them and maybe a few times a year they would release an update that would incidentally break yt-dlp. Now it feels like every week they're making changes specifically to break it.

I always use adblockers and never watch ads. Even on my TV, I use SmartTube (third party app) which blocks ads as well.

IIRC there were some cosmetic filters that UBO does that brave doesn't, and I first installed UBO on top because Brave was leaving me weird blank spots in pages where ads used to be. Or at least that was true as of the time I first installed Brave a few years ago lol. I just keep UBO running for extra layers of frick advertisers at this point. And I haven't seen an internet advertisement in years.
