Why does it feel like everyone around me either has no savings, or everyone invests in individual stocks, or crypto.

In a sane America, it would look like this:

10% invests in slot machines, or amphetamines

89% buys the whole market (which is what I do)

1% buys GTAT or FrickCoin

But in reality, it feels like:

10% Slots

10& S%P 500

100% Wallstreetbets

siiiiiiiiip yep Vanguard money market and $VOO are pretty gud investments. No, I don't know any stock tickers, I'm in index funds only. Why don't you keep telling me about your "creep-toe" and computer company stocks while I throw a few more brats on the grill?

I have multiple accounts. 401k is in a target date fund, backdoor Roth IRA is a 3-fund portfolio, and my individual account is all individual stock picking and some bitcoin.

Stock picking has worked very well for me since I don't day trade like an r-slur, but I still have my more conservative accounts for when the market reminds me I'm an r-slur.

I moved everything out of target date funds like 2 years ago after I looked through their expense ratios and put everything into an S&P500 vanguard index. Can't believe how much some of them fleece people that are 40 years from retirement for a fund that doesn't need bond exposure for the next 20 years
